If you are a owner of HTC HD2, you should or may be aware of some issues on this smartphone. First of all, the pink cast that has caused a lot of noise amongst users. Many, at first, thought or heard from “someone” that it is a hardware issue. However, recently, HTC came up with a patch which promised “clear digital picture quality“. Not long after, came another patch to improve the storage capacity. It mentions that with the patch, it is able to increase the number of pictures taken on same storage size.
So, I took some trouble to capture the before and after the hotfix to see if they really helps. The picture above is taken by HTC HD2 after the hotfixes and using Photoshop to auto level the picture. It is resized to fit into this post. It was taken through a glass window. Cannot see if the Pink cast is gone? Read on!
Here are the scenario that I set for the comparison.
Scenario
I took 2 pictures before the hotfix and after the hotfix. The pictures are then auto leveled, auto color in Photoshop. No other enhancements were done. All pictures were taken without flash.
Results
Here are the results. I have input some comments in the pictures.
Next, a very colorful wall.
Summary
For the first set, you can see the pink cast before hotfix and no pink cast after hotfix. For the second set, it is difficult to see. For both sets, after applying the storage capacity hotfix, there is a significant drop in the file size.
My results is not very accurate as the auto-balance of the camera plays a part. However, looking at the first set of results, it seems that Pink Cast can really be removed by software. Will continue to explore.
However, one thing I must comment is that the camera for this HTC HD2 is really good compared to the other models. I can truly say that this camera can be used in normal circumstances. It is fast and the auto focus is good. You can see the quality of the pictures above (even though they are resized).
