I was invited to the Norton 2010 event at Singapore Flyer. This is the official launch for Norton Anti Virus 2010 (NAV 2010) and Norton Internet Security 2010 (NIS 2010).

The event was held at Megu Event Hall at the Singapore Flyer. It was evening time and I have to take this shot of the flyer.

The venue was nicely decorated. Kudos to the Norton Team.

We were allocated a table number. I was given Table 1.

There were quite a number of people attending this event. And here is the registration counter.

And now, one of the best part of the evening.. Food!

Here are the chefs standing by.

And one of my favorite, dessert.

More dessert.

The event started with the compere of the night trying to warm us up with some games.

First game, photohunt.

BTW, the top 3 teams that accumulated the most points will win prizes. Second game is to try to figure out wording related to security that are jumbled up.

If you think it is easy, try it yourself!
- Torn! NO? (Ans: Norton)
- Ice Yurts
- Sampan it (Ans: Anti Spam)
- High Snip
- Good Decorum Nunnery
Know the answer?
The last game of the evening requires some team work. We were given some “raw” materials to make a support/cushion that can withstand an egg drop from a 2 meters height.

The end result: Rojak Cushion

And some from other teams.

And lining up for the 2 meter drop.

Of course, before that, we will need to introduce our “work”.

Guess which design will break the egg. Watch this video.
After these games, we were warmed up and ready for the REAL STUFF.
Affendy is the first to start. He talks about how cybercrime has evolved over the years and some interesting statistics.
- Every 1/4 seconds, cybercrime is committed
- 1 in 5 becomes a victim of cybercrime
There are more, of course. But these are the interesting ones. He also touched on how cybercrime has exceeded drug trafficking and the money that a cyber thief can earn.

Next up is David Hall. He presented how Norton with its products can help to deter or reduce these threats.

I must say that Norton has really gone deep in their research on cybercrime. The old method of virus definition is totally outdated. He talked about reputation (on files) and Heuristic (behavioral) studies that can really prevent threats. Here is an example of Quorum in action.

These are the approach that Norton is adopting to fight cybercrime. With Norton Insights and other tools, cyber threats can be reduced to the minimal. The presentation ended with Q&A.

The audiences asked if Norton products can scan hidden files or encrypted hardisk or not. The answer is Yes for both. I also asked a question but I guess after the presentation, I already know the answer.
I asked on how Norton view Microsoft with the introduction of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). The answer is quite obvious. Do you see MSE having those functions that will prevent cyber threats before it can even execute?
I guess MSE, which is free, is good if its virus definition is updated. It is like the old style Anti Virus software. However, for Norton products, it can actually gather data of the file(s) via Norton Insights (Norton community) to determine the “reputation” and also analyse the behaviour of the file. There are more functions (I realized only after I played with it for a while).
Anyway, after the Q&A, there was a small prize giving ceremony for a T-shirt Design contest and a Norton Internet Security 2010 Beta lucky users.

The event ended with some hands on opportunities on NIS 2010. Hope that you enjoyed this event coverage.
BTW, the goodie bag from Norton consist of NIS 2010 (single user), a T-shirt, a wireless mouse and a Singapore Flyer ticket!
