Twitter Documentary to Begin Production

Celebrated Singaporean filmmaker Siok Siok Tan began work several months ago on a “Twittamentary” about the popular micro-blogging service, Twitter and the idea is soon to come to life.

Siok Siok, a multiple Asian TV Award winner, former executive producer for Discovery Channel and an adjunct instructor at the famed Beijing Film Academy will bring her expertise in film making and production to this documentary.  Siok holds a degree from Brown University in Comparative literature and while at the Film Academy she directed the film Boomtown Beijing, documenting the lives of “ordinary Chinese” in the year leading up to the Beijing Olympics.

An avid Twitter user herself, Tan says, “I want to make a film that peels away the hype and explores how lives connect and intersect, and then are affected and changed as result of encounters on Twitter.”

Traditional filmmaking expertise is clearly not enough for this project based on social media. Tan has created a unique Twittamentary web platform with help from Lonnie Hodge,
digital marketing expert, award winning writer and a past NEA fellow in writing. She has also enlisted Michael Slatoff, web developer and CEO of the Hong Kong based Web Design and Development firm Electric Brain.

Tan is currently seeking media partners to help make Twittamentary a fun and successful project. If you are interested, send her a message on Twitter: @sioksiok.

Twitter Documentary Invites Your Contributions

Singaporean filmmaker Siok Siok Tan’s upcoming Twittamentary is calling on everybody who has an interesting Twitter related story to take part in the project and share!

Twittamentary is to be created in the open spirit of the Web and hopes to reveal how it has affected the lives of its many users. Twitter users will be invited to contribute story ideas, rich media and videos to the film via the movie website. When the film is completed, it will be shared online with the Twitter community and the world at large under a Creative Commons license.
The first phase of submissions will culminate in a 24-hour, across the globe event online in which all Twitter users are invited to share a story that answers the question: what is the most fascinating thing that happened to you because of Twitter? They can also rate, comment and tweet about the story ideas and videos that others have contributed.

The filmmaker loves the idea of distilling insights by telling and sharing stories. It is an act that everyone regardless of race, language, religion and age can partake in. According to Siok, when interviewed by Webpronews.com, “We are looking for great stories about how Twitter has affected the lives of real people, stories that have visual potential. This is going to be the first ‘do-it-ourselves’ movie about Twitter! We really need help to get the word of the project out to as many Twitter users as possible. So if anyone who runs a blog, news outlet or technology platform, wants to be our media partner, please send me a tweet @sioksiok.”
