Prediction Of H1N1 Influenza in Singapore with Daily Website Tracking

A group of doctors had team up together to track H1N1 influenza in Singapore. Currently, they are basing on reports of family doctors and update the chart daily. There is also an algorithm in the website to predict the spread of H1N1 influenza. If this website is accurate, then we should see a boom of H1N1 in August 2009!

According to Straits Times report and on the website, the current pool of doctors reporting is very minimal. Currently (as of the report), there are only 21 family doctors participating in this watch.

They are hoping at least 100 family doctors can spend some time to report to them.

Even with the information of doctors, there are still factors that must be predicted. For example, there will be cases of actual H1N1 but not reported because the person did not see a doctor or the doctor did not participate in this watch.

To get the information as accurately as possible, they are using a method called Particle Filtering to predict the trend. All the doctors are doing this in their free time. So, if you are a family doctor, please contact them to support this very important study.

BTW, I read about this website from Straits Times.
