First of all, I did not make this list. It is from CNET. I agree with most of the items but some items are just not right. For example, Sony Aibo is NOT one Tech Flop in my opinion. Sony pulled the plug on it due to the high cost and not because it is not taking off. Segway is also NOT in my list. So, what do you think of this list?
First of all, in the article, CNET made known to its reader the meaning of flops.
In my book it’s simply something that was really hyped but didn’t live up to its promise or expectations. And while the word “flop” has a negative connotation, we here at CNET have a lot admiration for the designers, engineers, and everybody else who put their heart and soul into bringing these products and technologies to the world. Some of them didn’t deserve their fates.
And here is the list that CNET compiled.
- Dreamcast
- The standalone DVD recorder
- Sony Aibo
- DVD-Audio/SACD
- Modo
- Microsoft Windows Media Center
- Satellite radio
- Sony MicroMV
- Segway

- Nokia N-Gage
- Microsoft SPOT Smart Watches
- The UMD
- CableCard
- SED flat-panel TV technology
- LocationFree TV
- Gizmondo
- Palm Lifedrive
- Nintendo Gameboy Micro
