First Review of ViGi Vehicle Video Recorder (MT-12), Special Discount for Readers – Video Within

If you are following my blog, you will notice that I have been talking about this ViGi Vehicle Video Recorder (VVR) MT-12. I have gotten the review set on Thursday evening and has been using it for a few days. This is a short review of using it and also my collection of near misses captured on video ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Here is a short video of some video taken using ViGi MT-12

First Impression

Bulky but light. Some thinks that it is not worth that price. Nice holder and good to have laser pointer incorporated.

First Usage

I did not read any instruction. inserted my free 2GB Kingston SD card, stick the ViGi VVR to my windscreen, plug it into the cigarette socket and that is it. I meddle with the laser pointer a little bit but I think it will be useless in bright light. Anyway, adjust pointer roughly to the center of your car. BTW, when I plugged the power into the cigaretter socket, it will start recording in approximately 4 seconds.

First Review of Footage

The SD card store the video and images (yes, it can take images) in separate folder. The video are captured in approximately 5 minutes block with a file size of over 100 mb (depending on the details). The carpark footage is grainy but it is expected (but above my expectation) as the device has a auto balancing system (it is called White Balancing but I think it should be called auto light adjustment).

The daylight videos are pretty good. In fact, after some of my friends looked at the footage, they are already thinking of getting one themselves.

The low light (in tunnel) to daylight (outside tunnel) adjustment is pretty good. It can easily adjust to the correct lighting and a fast speed.

What Can You Do with ViGi Vehicle Video Recorder

  • Of course, according to manual, you can record accidents and use it as evidences. However, after some talks with my friends, I think we can make better use of it.
  • Record accidents or near misses for evidences in claiming insurances and etc.
  • Capture interesting on-the-road footage, like convoys and etc.
  • Use it as a direction video if someone don’t know how to go to a place (record it, upload it and share with everyone).
  • Use it as a voice recorder if you suddenly have a brilliant million dollar idea. Just shout it out as this device captures sound (very good function, in my opinion)
  • Use it as a surveillance camera. I manage to power it on using a USB cable with charger input (not included in package). See below pictures.

  • Use it to capture interesting places, people on the road. In fact I am doing it now ๐Ÿ™‚ .
  • Use it as a rear video recorder. you can plug it to your rear of your car. You have 3 meters ofย  cable to move around.
  • Goofing around in the car. Use it as a video camera to capture that moment.

My thoughts

  • The maximum 4GB capacity is not enough. It should incoporate a SDHC standard card slot (but I think price will increase). However as the video will overwrite itself, it may not post a big issue.
  • The resolution could be improved in future. Currently, it is at 640 X 480 pixels. You can still see vehicle number at close range. If you increase resolution, price may increase.
  • The device is a must have for people that is always travelling on the road.
  • The device can save a lot of explanation in accidents given that it can capture the whole incident and even record the sound at that moment.
