Sony Goes Green with the New BRAVIA WE5 Series LCD TV
The new BRAVIA includes environmentally friendly features such as the World’s 1st Microtubular HCFL , Presence Sensor and Energy Saving Switch to achieve minimal usage of energy
(Singapore, 9th June 2009) – In a bid to do its part for the environment, Sony Singapore unveils the new BRAVIA WE5 Series LCD TV that embeds environmentally friendly features such as the World’s 1st Microtubular HCFL, a Presence Sensor and an Energy Saving Switch on top of providing high quality visual entertainment. Featuring Motionflow 100Hz technology, BRAVIA Engine 3, and Full High Definition (Full HD) resolution, the BRAVIA WE5 Series effectively achieves minimal usage of energy without compromising picture quality.
Developing Technologies With The Environment In Mind
Minimising impact on the environment, the BRAVIA WE5 Series is integrated with several eco-friendly features that help conserve energy at every possible juncture. One of these technologies is the Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (HCFL) Backlight Panel which uses up to 40% less energy when users are watching TV thus achieving lower power consumption while maintaining the same level of brightness when compared to conventional CCFL LCD TVs.
Sensing if a viewer is present or not in the room, the intelligent Presence Sensor function is able to temporarily turn off the TV picture which instantly reduces power consumption by 50%. With this function, the TV can also be set to turn off the picture after a preset period of time. Assuming the ability of a computer standby mode, the Presence Sensor can be set to shift Picture On mode to Picture Off mode after a certain period of time, such as 30 minutes. Ambient Light Sensor technology is also incorporated to automatically adjust picture settings based on the viewing environment to maintain optimal brightness and conserve energy. Meanwhile a pre-set Eco setting allows users to watch TV at minimal energy consumption.
The environmental-friendly features do not stop when the TV is switched off. The BRAVIA WE5 Series also has an Energy Saving Switch conveniently located at the side of the TV that lets users shut off the power without having to unplug the AC cord from the mains. This cuts standby mode power consumption to practically 0W . Further, during production, lead free solder and harmless chemicals were used, as are recycled materials for its packaging.
Never Compromising On Picture Quality
While much importance is placed on environmental concerns, Sony equally enhanced the performance of this LCD TV through the inclusion of Full HD image display capabilities, MotionFlow 100Hz technology, enhanced BRAVIA Engine 3 processor, and Live Colour technology. The BRAVIA WE5 Series displays at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and this allows for finer detail, texture and image depth to be displayed on screen. Motionflow 100Hz technology on the other hand, reproduces smooth motions on screen by doubling the number of images displayed per second. Through the use of a unique algorithm, the BRAVIA is able to insert new images based on speed and movement of the subject on screen thus reducing image blur in the video capturing process, resulting in crisp and clear visuals.
Another advantage of this TV is the inclusion of BRAVIA Engine 3, a new high-definition video processor that reproduces vibrant colours at optimal contrast for each scene. Live Colour technology is also incorporated to reproduce stunning colours of nature more vividly through optimal colour tuning and purity.
“We understand the importance of conserving the environment and instead of just talking about it, Sony prefers to create products that would help us do our part for the environment,” says Mr. Takeo Kobayashi, Managing Director of Sony Singapore. “With the BRAVIA WE5 Series, features like the HCFL backlight, Presence Sensor and Energy Saving Switch enable low energy consumption which in turn, translates to cost savings to our consumers.”
Flexibility In A BRAVIA
Other popular BRAVIA technologies in the WE5 Series include 24P True Cinema which reproduces frames at the same speed as the original film source and S-Force Front Surround Sound for simulated surround from the TV speakers. In terms of connectivity, the WE5 Series features one-touch operation BRAVIA Sync, is DLNA certified which allows the user to play movies, photos and music stored in digital cameras or PC onto the LCD TV, and has 4 HDMI inputs.
The new eco-friendly BRAVIA WE5 series will be available in Singapore from mid June.
