I was invited to the MSI X-Slim X340 Launch Event at Vivocity Singapore. It was held at Serenity Restaurant and it involves the media, bloggers and forum members. I could not believe that there are so many people with DSLRs snapping happily at the event (I am also one of them 🙂 ). Here is my event coverage.
Before I start, here is a short video of the event overview.
There were many people and all of us were asked to take a picture with the MSI “Power” girls. Look at how happy he is.
Here are some more shots of the reception area and the girls.
Each of us were given goodies bag that consist of the product guide of MSI for 2nd quarter, a wrist band watch, a MSI pen, a water bottle (?!) and a very nice game figurine.
When we enter the restaurant, we were greeted by the stars of the day, the MSI X-Slim X340. Many people began crowding around the units and snapping pictures of them.
Here is the white one.
And this is the black.
You can see the seriousness in their eyes when they are “playing” with the X340.
And also how concentrated the photographers are when they are taking the slim looking X340.
The ambience at Serenity Restaurant is nice. It has naturally light penetrating into the premise and today (1st June 2009) is also their 1st year anniversary. Congrats!
The event started with a presentation by MSI and some questions and answers. Prizes (2 movie tickets, courtesy of Golden Village) were given out.
Here is the team that organizes this event.
He is the compere for the day.
Two of the interesting ones are asking the audiences to selected one of the 3 items layout on the table. It is supposingly that one of them holds the X340. The three items are an envelope, a folder and a plastic folder. To the amazement of everyone, all of them contain the X340. Here is a screen capture (forgot to take a picture).
Anyway, the next question is to judge the weight of the X340. Three items again, a watermelon, a 1.5 litres of mineral water and a Her World Brides magazine. Again, the X340 which weighs 1.3kg is the winner (even the magazine is heavier at 1.375kg)
Here are a few more shots of the audiences and photographers.
Next, we were treated to a display of the MSI X340 by the models. You can see them in the video that I have compiled.
Not forgetting the bloggers. You may recognize some of them if you frequent their blogs.
Finally, the event ends with a lucky draw of ONLY one person who will get the MSI X-Slim X340.
Tossing the name cards into the air.
And the winner is ….
Here are some of the shots that I have taken on the X340. Personally, I think that it is really light at 1.3kg. The thickest portion of the laptop is just 19.8mm and the thinnest is a mere 6mm! I like the Power On button.
But I hate the touchpad. It is the same design as Wind U100.
The laptop comes with a 4-cell battery that is supposed to last 4 hours (according to MSI people). There will be an 8-cells battery but I guess that will add a few hundred grams to it. Anyway, it is not available yet. The laptop should come with a 320 GB hardisk. The MSI X-Slim X340 is on retail now at SG$1,599 and it comes with 2 years warranty.
The keyboard is thin and flat. It is that type of either you love it or hate it kind of keyboard.
On this slim design, it still has 2 USB port, VGA port, HDMI port and a card slot.
And it comes with a 1.3 MegaPixels webcam
Here is a screen shot of the CPU. It is a Penryn Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo SU9400 with ULV.

I am quite puzzle by the specs in the MSI Asia website. It states a Core Solo but what I see on the unit is Core Duo. I will check it out with MSI people. MSI (representative from Corbell) has replied my queries.
