Report Shows Twitterers Not Staying Around After Joining

A report in Straits Times indicated that Twitterers are not sticking around the social network for long. This seems to be a common issue to most Social Networking sites. You get distracted and lose interest in the social site after a while.

From the report,

MORE than 60 per cent of Twitter users have stopped using the micro-blogging service a month after joining, according to Nielsen Online research released on Tuesday.

From the report, it mentions that unlike Facebook or MySpace (70% retention rate), Twitterers tend to stop using the microblogging site (60% drop out rate) after some time. This may be caused by factors that celebrity are using it, people are talking about it and in my opinion, many people are earning from it as the messages are only 160 characters each and normally, a person will click on the link to find out more details.

I think that it all comes to what you want to do with it. In Facebook and MySpace, there are many applications and etc. However, in Twitters, we can only see words and links. But on the plus side, Twitter seems so easy to use and it just become any SMS services for most people.
