HTC Announced First in The World, Push Internet to Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2

This is a follow up of the HTC Media Coverage that I attended a few days ago (16th April 2009). During the event, HTC announces 2 phones. They are HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2. You can read the press release here or you can read my coverage over here.

However, this post is talking about something that I did not know it exist (I read many blogs but I did not remember it has been mentioned). Something very simple yet handy. It is the Push Internet. HTC mentioned that it is the first in the World. So, what is Push Internet?

Think Push Internet as Push Mail. It is a very simple function. You push the content that you like, just like when you wanted to read your latest email, you let your server push the emails to you. In Push Internet, the content are pre-loaded and when you access them, it comes immediately in front of you. No waiting.

Why Push Internet?

I got a very simple, real, direct to the point answer from HTC, John Wang, Chief Marketing Officer, during the presentation. People do not like to wait. HTC believe that waiting is not a solution. People knows that when they surf the net, they need to wait for the content to be loaded before they could read them. HTC wanted to solve this problem. And that is how Push Internet comes about.

How Does Push Internet Works?

A few of us are fortunate enough to have a live demonstration by Mr. John Wang. First of all, in my initial introduction, I mentioned that Push Internet is simple and here is the reasons. It works by telling your phone when to download the information. You will need to tell your phone what information to get, when to get it, how often you want to update it. That is it, Push Internet! Choose a content (e.g. Stock), schedule it (e.g. 08:30am to 06:00pm) and how often you want it to be updated (e.g. Every hour).

If you think about it, it is in fact pull Internet as you pull the content from the Internet to your phone (this was pointed out during the media Q&A). However, think it in a different perspective, the Internet pushes the content that your phone is programmed to receive and therefore, Push Internet! (just my thoughts… 🙂 )

HTC added a function to the browser tab. Pressing it allows you to preset the condition for Push Internet. As you can see in the above picture, you can schedule it. So, when the time is right, it will automatically pull the content to the phone.

Remarks

Basically, I could not find any detailed information about Push Internet from the Internet. The description is based on what I had seen that day. If you think that it is incorrect, lets discuss. It will be interesting 🙂

Hope that you enjoy my post.
