Times are bad. However, I do not agree with what they are doing. These girls (mostly) are selling wine from their car boots in popular carparks. It may seems to be ok but from Straits Times, the tactics that they used are overboard and also the price that they are selling are way above the mark.
The tactics are the same (or at least similar). They mentioned that they have argument with some chefs and now are selling off the wine at below cost price. Normally, they sell between SG$30 to SG$100. They hyped that the original price is around SG$500. However, they sometimes change their tactics by saying that they are for free and would appreciate just a token for those wine.
BTW, two of the wine names are The Merlot and Valencia.
When Straits Times questioned their boss of Dickson Enterprise, he mentioned that he already asked them to stop the tactics as they were trained to do so by a trainer (who already had left the job).
Here are some of the favourite haunt of these wine sellers (extracted from Straits Times): –
Their favourite haunts include Paragon Shopping Mall, Ngee Ann City, Suntec City, UOB Plaza and UIC building. They sometimes also trawl the heartland malls such as Northpoint in Yishun and have also been spotted at St James PowerHouse.
However, Straits Times requested some expert to taste the wine so as to establish their value. I am surprised that most of them mentioned that they are just worth less than SG$20 and one even mentioned SG$12!
However, I must say that it is NOT an easy job too! Would you buy wine from a car boot from an unknown source?
