This is slightly a longer wait than I thought. Finally, Japan had announced that they have developed a hybrid disc that contain the Blu-ray disc and the standard DVD on the same side.
According to the source, the first hybrid Blu-ray/DVD title, Pony Canyon 2009 to release on 18 February is called “Code Blue emergency helicopter doctor Blu-ray BOX”. BTW, this is just the Japan to English translated name of the title.
Now, I guess everyone wish is to get a player that is backward compatible. That is the same scenario when DVD was introduced and players could only play DVD disc and not CD. The question now is when will it arrive (at affordable price)?
