China Toxic Wasteland Exposed, Consumer Electronics to Blame – Video Link

This is really sad. China poverty has driven the villagers to do the most toxic jobs in the World. That is to salvage those gold, component from the printed circuit boards (PCBs), Computer Monitor (Cathode Ray Tube) and etc or simply, we called it E-Waste. The toxic that they are inhaling everyday is creating health issues everyday.

The main focus is that most recycling plant claimed to recycle electronics waste using high tech method. However, there are companies out there just to make quick money by exporting it to China and letting those villagers do the dirty job without protection. In the video from 60 MInutes, you can see ashes from the burning of the PCBs running into river and causing the water to be polluted.

Video after the break.

In the 12 minutes plus video, it is frustrating to see that Recycling Company put up big logos to tell the World that they do recycling in the States. However, the fact was that they transport the container of E-Waste to Hong Kong and then to China for their cheap labour. Imagine, US$8 per day for all the hard work and health risk. In fact, I am frustrated to see that China is still protecting this type of illegal activities, inclusive of the Authority.

I can understand Chinese language. At almost the end of the video, when the 60 minutes crews were harassed by the China people for filming at their illegal recycling factory, I can hear a woman telling someone to call the police. That shows how much they know about the health risk they are getting at. However, I do understand that if they don’t do it, they will lose their livelihood and the job will just go to another place.

The only way that we can put a stop to it is to ensure that all recycling activities are legal and with strict law enforced. So, the next time you want to do a part for the environment, be sure to check out where your items go.
