British Astronaut Teddy Bears Conquers the Outer Space

This is not a joke. These British teddy bears actually took a 2 hours and 9 minutes flight to reach the edge of the space with their special suits and still not forgetting to take those wonderful pictures of them conquering space. Awesome!

More pictures and the story after the break.

These bears (4 of them) endured the long trips on a helium balloon with a flight computer, GPS, digital cameras and radio. The suits that they don are made of special material so that they can endure the -53 degree celcius temperature in Space.

If you are thinking this is one of the NASA test bears, you are wrong. They are infact made by children on the mission to understand how different materials can withstand the temperature. On the first picture, the names are actually the children that made the suits.

The teddy bears are strapped in styrofoams on both side of their “space craft” before they were launched 19 miles above the earth to perform their first space walk.

The helium latex balloon is built by Cambridge University Space Flight Science Club.

According to the report, they have done about 10 experiments but they landed in the sea.

For this mission, a chase team on the ground keep track of the balloon. They have already forecast a landing area using wind speed and etc. Finally, when the bears landed, they are about 50 miles from the launch pad. Not bad.
