Things You Need to Know Before Getting Google Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro in Singapore

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are now available in Singapore. You can go directly to Google’s online store to get it now. Here are some things to note before getting it.

Google announces the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in October last year. It took around 5 months before it reaches Singapore. If you look at the history of Google Pixel phones in Singapore, you will know that there are NO Pixel 5 phones are sold in Singapore. Not sure why though.

Here is the pricing information.

Before you visit the Singapore online Google Store, here are some things you might need to know.

  • Each Pixel 6 phone has only two color options – If you compare it with the color options during launch, some colors are missing.
  • There is only one storage size (128 GB) – I think this is not enough if you are an avid photographer on mobile phones.
  • There is no charger in the box – This is not new ever since Apple started the trend of removing the charger from new phones some time ago.
  • You have to buy the casing separately – Again, nothing to complain about but some phone manufacturers are giving out free casings in the box.
  • Pixel Pass in not available in Singapore – Unfortunately, this is the fact. Hopefully, we can have it here. Read on to know what is Pixel Pass.
  • The maximum charging speed is 30W (You need to purchase the charger separately) – Other Android competitors are having 60W charging speed but seems like US phone manufacturers are taking time to adjust. I am just not used to charging a phone to only 50% after 30 minutes.

However, not everything is negative. Here are what you can enjoy while using the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro. Note that most of the interesting features are found on Pixel 6 Pro.

  • It has 6.7-inch Smooth Display with LTPO technology (Pixel 6 Pro) that can intelligently adjust up to 120Hz for smoother, more responsive performance, or lower to 10Hz to save battery.
  • It has Google Tensor processor custom made for Pixel – It helps make Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro the smartest and fastest Pixel phones yet. With up to 80% faster performance than Pixel 5, Pixel 6 runs smoother, apps launch faster, and gaming is more responsive. Tensor delivers Google’s advanced on-device AI for features only Google can deliver like faster, more accurate speech recognition and image processing. Plus it saves power to help you get through the day.
  • It has good cameras – The main sensor captures 150% more light. Face Unblur helps to clearly capture faces even in the toughest conditions. Magic Eraser in Google Photos removes photobombers and distractions from your photos, just like that. With Real Tone, portraits on Pixel represent all people and skin tones beautifully and accurately. Pixel 6 Pro’s pro-level lenses also include a telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and an ultrawide front camera with 94° field of view for stunning group selfies.
  • It is built with high Security – Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are built with the new processor and the next-gen Titan M2 security chip. Every day, Pixel helps you feel safe with 5 years of security updates, the Security hub, and protection from hackers and phishing in messaging apps. And Pixel keeps you in control of your privacy. You can turn your Pixel’s mics and cameras off, and choose when apps can use them. With the Personal Safety app, Pixel helps you reach emergency contacts or services if you need them, and can even detect if you’ve been in an accident and helps you reach first responders.
  • It has Adaptive Battery – Pixel’s all-day Adaptive Battery is everything a battery should be. It can last beyond 24 hours, even on 5G. It learns your favorite apps, so it doesn’t waste power on ones you never use. When you turn on Extreme Battery Saver, it keeps your essential apps running and turns off other apps to save even more power, so your battery can last up to 48 hours. And with the compatible 30W USB-C charger (sold separately), your Pixel charges up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes.
  • It is always updating the phone to make it better – Every few months, Google enhances Pixel with software updates that send new features to your phone. Every feature drop brings new and better ways to do things.

As mentioned earlier, Pixel Pass is not available in Singapore. Here is what Pixel Pass does if you subscribe to it (in the US).

Pixel Pass brings Pixel and Google services together in one easy subscription for a low monthly price. You’ll get a new Pixel with an upgrade after two years. Device protection lets you worry less. Google One keeps your photos and files safe with 200 GB of storage and automatic phone backup. And you can play ad-free YouTube videos, music, and games with YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, and Google Play Pass. It’s a great deal, and it’s available through Google Fi and the Google Store.

I have not really used a Google Phone as the main phone before. With the latest features from Google and the latest updates on Android, I am sure the user experience will be great. BTW, I do love the fact that Google designs the phone (back) differently from the competitors. At one glance, people will be able to recognize it as the Pixel Phone.
