One of the most anticipated features from Huawei Mate20 Pro is the 3D Live Maker. I was in awe when I watched the keynote live in London. After so many months, it has finally arrived.
BTW, I am not sure how long the app has been made available on Android app store but I was excited to download it yesterday.
As expected, the reality is different from the perfect demonstration I saw in London. First of all, this app can ONLY work with HUAWEI Mate20 Pro and HUAWEI Mate20 RS.
I saw comments that some were frustrated that other Huawei phones are not working. Of course, they will not work. Based on what I know, I believe that the reason this app can only work with the front-facing camera on Mate20 Pro or Mate20 RS is that the front-facing camera has 3D depth sensing.
First try on the app is a disaster. It is not easy to “scan” the object (in my case, a teddy bear) while maintaining a distance from the object and making sure that the object is being scanned properly.
I might do a demo later but trust me, if you want to get it to work, the object cannot be too soft. It needs to maintain the shape while being scanned.
Do try it if you are using the Mate20 Pro or Mate20 RS.
