Cisco Makes Home Networking Simply Powerful with a Refresh of Linksys E-Series and Launch of Linksys X-Series and New Wireless-N Peripherals
New Products Set Industry Benchmarks for Speed, Range and Ease of Use,
Enabling Consumers to Live a Fuss-Free, Wireless Lifestyle
Singapore, 6 October 2011 – Cisco today launched a refresh of Linksys E-series wireless routers, new Linksys X-series modem routers and Linksys Wireless-N peripherals, offering consumers a multitude of choices to plug into a powerful wireless experience in the home.
Cisco’s new products are characterized by high performance with cutting-edge technology, setting new benchmarks for speed, range and ease-of-use while featuring the latest industrial design that combines aesthetics and advanced functionality.
With Internet video consumption exploding and sales of wireless-enabled products such as smart phones, tablets and game consoles steadily growing, consumers are seeking greater performance, reliability and simplicity from their home wireless networks.
Ulrike Tegtmeier, Vice President, International, Cisco Home Networking Business Unit, said, “The home network is now a complex mix of various devices connecting to one platform, and consumers are demanding reliability and speed to meet their digital lifestyle needs. Beyond the smart phone and personal computer, devices that are connected to the home network include TVs, Blu-Ray players, game consoles and set-top boxes. The increasingly sophisticated requirements of consumers today underscore the importance of wireless connectivity for a next-generation home entertainment experience.”
Linksys E-Series
The new and improved Linksys E-series wireless routers provide speeds of up to 450Mbps, with key features including 3×3 spatial stream configuration for improved coverage, external power amplifiers to maintain signal strength over a greater distance and reduce dead spots and virtual USB technology to connect USB printers, storage and other devices to the network. Native IPv6 and 6rd support are also new on select E-series models.
Linksys X-Series
The powerful Linksys X-series is a range of hybrid home wireless products that help consumers to simply create a high speed wireless home network that works with both DSL and cable broadband connections. The Linksys X-series enables consumers to access the internet and enjoy reliable wireless access on all their wireless devices around the home such as laptops, tablets, smart phones, game consoles and Internet ready televisions and is the ideal solution for consumers to go wireless with their fixed broadband connection and for those who want to upgrade to wireless-N. The new hybrid solutions provide consumers with the flexibility and ease of use to connect to cable and DSL broadband connections when moving to a new home or switching service providers.
Linksys WES610N Dual-Band Wireless-N Entertainment Bridge
The versatile Linksys WES610N Entertainment Bridge can make any wired device a part of the home wireless network. With a built-in 4-Port Switch to easily connect multiple devices, the Linksys WES610N converts TVs, printers, computers and other wired devices to wireless. It is optimized for streaming video and is ideal for wirelessly streaming or sharing music, photos, movies and other files around the home so consumers can create their very own entertainment hub with just one device.
Linksys RE1000 Wireless-N Range Extender
For consumers experiencing weaker signal strength or “dead spots” in the home, the Linksys RE1000 Range Extender is the perfect companion for wider home coverage. The extender is designed to take an existing wireless signal and repeat it throughout the home to ‘extend’ the signal. The Linksys Range Extender also acts as a wireless bridge – connecting a wired printer, Internet enabled TV or game console to the wireless network through its integrated Ethernet port.
Linksys AE1200 Wireless-N Adaptor & Linksys AE2500 Dual Band Wireless-N Adaptor
The Linksys AE1200 Wireless-N Adaptor and Linksys AE2500 Dual Band Wireless-N Adaptor are both ideal to upgrade computers to Wireless-N by simply plugging the adapter into a computer’s USB port. The Linksys AE2500 additionally offers Dual-Band Wireless-N to allow selection between the 2.4GHz band and 5 GHz band to avoid interference and maximize throughput.
Cisco Connect Software
All Linksys modem routers and routers are shipped with Cisco Connect software, enabling users to set up their wireless home networks in just a few easy steps. Consumers also have the advantage of being able to customize and control their wireless settings to match their individual preferences.
Once set up, users can use Cisco Connect to:
- Add additional devices to the network
- Set parental controls
- Provide visitors Internet access on a separate guest network
- Measure the broadband connection speed with the Broadband Speed Meter
- Check for automatic firmware and software updates

* The maximum performance for wireless is derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual performance can vary, including lower wireless network capacity, data throughput rate, range and coverage. Performance depends on many factors, conditions and variables, including distance from the access point, volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, operating system used, mix of wireless products used, interference and other adverse conditions.
