Sony Launches “Sony Tablet” S in Singapore

Equipped with the latest Android 3.2 OS, the new Sony Tablet S combines powerful features with a unique asymmetric design to deliver an engaging entertainment experience

(SINGAPORE, 29 SEPTEMBER 2011) – Sony announces the market launch of “Sony Tablet” S, which delivers the perfect combination of hardware, content and network with seamless usability for a high-quality, engaging entertainment experience.

“Sony Tablet” S is equipped with AndroidTM 3.2 as well as the NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 mobile processor. With its 9.4-inch LED-backlit IPS screen and WiFi compatibility, users can easily enjoy web browsing, rich entertainment content as well as applications on a large screen. It weighs approximately 598g and its unique asymmetric design conveys a sense of lightness, offering comfortable use for hours.

Optimised for rich media entertainment, “Sony Tablet” S aims to deliver new user experiences. For instance, users can listen to music while reading a digital magazine and discover a popular online video which they can instantly share with friends and family through social network services on their sofa. Also, users can easily take these devices into the kitchen to cook recipes they receive from friends. Users can enjoy these kinds of browsing and communication experiences from a single device in all situations from the comforts of their living room to when they are on the go.

Optimally Designed Hardware and Software

Few things detract from the tablet experience more than unresponsive controls and stuttering performance, but “Sony Tablet” S delivers brilliantly on both fronts. For starters, it has a 9.4” LCD screen (1280×800 resolution), perfect for users viewing any range of content. The unique asymmetric design of “Sony Tablet” S gives it a finely balanced feel, as well as a sense of lightness that makes it a true pleasure to hold and use for hours on end. Its screen is sloped when placed onto a flat surface, thus enhancing screen visibility and making typing functions more comfortable.

Attaching the optional specialised cradle (sold separately) changes “Sony Tablet” S instantly into a photo frame or digital clock— whenever and whatever it is needed for, able to push information that users want. Moreover, “Sony Tablet” S is equipped with a TruBlack™ display which controls and reduces glare and reflections from sunlight or fluorescent light to realise high contrast and visibility for strain free use indoors or outdoors.

Swift and Smooth Experience

“Sony Tablet” S responds instantly and accurately to every touch, drag, zoom, or twist of the fingers. Optimising usability and performance, “Sony Tablet” S offers both Quick view and Quick touch capabilities. With Quick view and Quick touch, faster loading of website information is realised, web sites scroll quickly and smoothly, HD Flash video playback is more fluid, and even the latest games featuring advanced high resolution graphics are handled with aplomb.

The large keys of the virtual keyboard take full advantage of the screen on the “Sony Tablet” S while automatically adjusting to the task at hand. A numeric keypad pops up when inputting passwords and word suggestions or auto word complete make email and texting a breeze.

Network Entertainment

“Sony Tablet” S is the first series of PlayStation™ Certified tablets on which games for PlayStation™ Certified devices including original PlayStation games can be played[1], and popular titles such as Crash Bandicoot and Pinball Heroes come preinstalled. More services will be available over time.

True Cross-Device Connectivity

Today’s entertainment consumers want to experience their content on all the platforms they own, from PCs to video game consoles and television. “Sony Tablet” S wirelessly connects to DLNA compatible devices, including “BRAVIA” televisions, so users can “throw” their personal photos and videos up on the big television screen with the touch of a button. A built-in infrared sensor also allows “Sony Tablet” S to function as a remote control for any number of devices, including TVs, stereos, and more.
