Sony Ericsson Unveils New Products and Announces Upgrades in Media Event

Today (16th June  2010), Sony Ericsson invited bloggers and media to Marina Bay Sands (MBS) to announce their future plans and unveil their new products. It was held at Orchid ballroom. I think there were around 10 tables. Many media (foreign and local) were there.

I was late but nevertheless, I was able to catch Mr. Hirokazu Ishizuka, Corporate Vice-President and Head of Asia Pacific Region, giving an overview of the market in APAC.

Next, we have Mr. Kristian Tear, EVP of Global Sales and Marketing, talking on Sony Ericsson’s global position in the market.

Finally, we have Mr. Steve Walker, Head of Global Product Marketing giving us the latest products update and unveiling of Sony Ericsson’s new product. I guess many of us was waiting for this.

At first, he talked about the success of Timescape (UI for Xperia X10 and others) and the success of Xperia X10. He also touched on the phones that were announced in the first half of 2010.

Next, he talks about the features that Sony Ericsson has incorporated into the phones. Examples like Timescape, mediaplayer and etc.

He then talked about a new feature, UXP (UX Platform or User Experience Platform) and he related it to those model of phones that has 4 corners UI. Example like the X10 Mini.

Then, came a surprise (at least for me). Although I already know that Xperia X10 will be upgraded to Android 2.1 in Q3, I did not expect Sony Ericsson to add in a few more features like UXP, HD Video in Q3 2010 and in Q4, Connected Home (not many details on it).

Finally, all these leads to the announcement of New Products. Many media rushed to the front to capture the moment.

The Xperia X8 was officially announced.

And he moved on to unveil a few more new phones. Next up, the Walkman phone.

And introducing Spiro and Zylo. No date yet on the actual release.

Now, the next phone is Yendo. It is a touch screen phone and will be available in Q3 2010.

Another new term came up. Human Curvature, together with the 4 corner touch (one touch use).

Moving on, the next phone, Cedar. Although it looks like a standard candy bar phone, it has social networking built into it. Also available in Q3.

So, here are the two phones available in Q3, Yendo and Cedar.

The presentation ended with our host announcing the demo area where we can touch and play with those phones.

The Demo Area

The first is of course Xperia X8. It has a 3-inch screen and is white in color. However, the panel can be interchanged.

Some more views on the Xperia X8.

The side.

The firmware on this Xperia X8 is still Android 1.6

I spent the most time at the Xperia X8 area. Enough of me showing you the phone. We have June Wee (FHM finalist 2010) to show you how to model the phone. Haha.

More pictures of June Wee here.

Moving on, we went over to see Yendo. I love the colors of the interchangeable back panel.

I have taken video of the set. Will upload later.

Next, Zylo and Spiro. They are just dummy phones. No workable model around.

This is Zylo.

Next, I went over to Aspen.

Cedar.

Finally, spotted a bluetooth earpiece.

I think it is very big!

That is it! We were “rewarded” with food.
