An Evening with HP Mini and Designer Tord Boontje

On Friday morning, HP and Starhub held a joint media event at the Singapore Zoo to announce Starhub as the exclusive partner to the latest HP Mini by Studio Tord Boontje.

What many did not know is that HP has set up an exclusive event for Bloggers to meet up with Designer Tord Boontje. I was glad that I went. It was a very close and cozy event. The venue, Bar 84 at Gallery Hotel, has very nice ambience.

Tord was friendly and we have a nice time chatting with him. There was free flow of drinks and food.

Before the event started, he is already busy signing autographs and chatting with everyone.

The evening started with HP talking about the exclusiveness to have Tord Boontje coming to Singapore for this HP Mini by Studio Tord Boontje launch (with Starhub) and also this meet-the-bloggers event. We got to know that Singapore is the only place that he went for the HP Mini by Studio Tord Boontje launch.

He talked about and gladly showed us his works and explained to us how the designs came about. I loved the details in his design and the way he played with clay, metal and at the same time, being environmental friendly. You should see his workplace. It is more like a home than an office 🙂 . Here is one of his work shown on HP TouchSmart PC.

He was very casual and approachable and you can feel his passion when he talked about his works.

Tord described to us about how the design on HP Mini by Studio Tord Boontje evolved and become the product that we see and touch today. You have to see the 3D design in person. It is very difficult to see the details in the pictures. It does not do justice to the design. HP uses HP Imprint 3D technology to imprint the design onto the HP Mini. It is very 3D and full of details.

After the talk, we started to chat amongst one another. As the bloggers’ (technology especially) community is not that big, it made the event even better as everyone knows someone and we started to do our networking. BTW, I love the way HP made those card for the Mini.

HP presented to us an umbrella with the same theme design of the HP Mini and also the latest VOGUE magazine that has the HP Mini by Studio Tord Boontje advertisement in it. BTW, this umbrella is one and only and according to HP, we are one of the few to get them worldwide.

The umbrella quickly made the event into “meet-the-designer, sign the umbrella” frenzy. Everyone wanted Tord to sign on the umbrella. Below are some of the pictures that I captured.
