LG S-Class UI (User Interface) is Amazing!

I got to play the LG Arena during the PC Show and I was quite amazed by the User Interface (UI). It is called the S-Class User Interface. It was announced during the WMC (World Mobile Congress) in February this year. With this S-Class UI, you can rotate a 3D cube to see different faces with different icons. For example, it has a page with contacts and another page with multimedia utilities. You can actually customize the cube. Here is a screen shot from an emulator.

What is interesting about this S-Class UI is that it that it provides all the things that you need in a cube form and it is very addictive. LG has taken into consideration that instead of cluttering the main page with many icons, it uses a very dynamic 3D cube to do the job. By turning it, user is able to select what they wants, all in one cube.

What I like is that it is very fast. Turn the cube to where you want (e.g. Contact). Touch on it and it will enlarge to the content you want. Press a button and you return to the cube. Easy. Even if you do not want to return to the cube, you can still access the rest of the things in the cube by swiping your finger across the touch screen. It will rotate as cube.

One of the other cool thing about this S-Class UI is that you can have the icons on 4 rows and each can act an individual row for you to scroll them. Very fluid, I must say (based on my experience at the PC Show).

Actually, I like the contact list most. It is very smooth and the effect is very nice. While scrolling, touch on the picture and you can immediately get a pop up on what you can do. For example, call, SMS or video call the person.

You can also see a lot of information on the contact list. Press on the icon and it will expand out to let you see more information of that person.

There are so many things about this S-Class UI. Try out the camera function. It has a nice dial (like in a real camera) for you to select. And to top up to it, LG has thrown in a scientific calculator.

LG has a microsite just for this LG Arena. Over there, you can play with the Arena Emulator and experience S-Class UI yourself.

Also, remember to have fun with those desktop 3D widgets and Screen Saver that you can download to your PC. By downloading the 3D Widget software or playing the 3D game, you stand a chance to win yourself a LG Arena mobile phone. The game is super addictive. I tried many times just to satisfy my ego 🙂 on the timing.

I have downloaded the widget application to my XP computer and they are interesting. You can actually experience the reel scrolling effect as seen on the LG Arena (multimedia page) on your desktop.

As you can see above, it can directly scan the internet for Youtube clips and etc. You can also use it for multimedia or image files on your computer. In fact, same as the LG Arena S-Class UI, you also get your own cube 🙂 but this time on your desktop. Below, you can see the 4 faces of the cube.

Don’t forget about the cool Screen Saver. You can download free at the Microsite too. It can be customized to your liking before you download. The number will turn in 3D when it changes. Quite interesting too!

BTW, for your information. LG next flagship model, LG Crystal was officially launched during the CommunicAsia 2009. It has a glass keypad that you really can see through it!
