Acer Smart Handheld F900 Review – Overall View

The Acer Smart Handheld F900 is very similar to HTC Touch HD. In fact, I will do a comparison later. Now, lets go through some of the hardware on this F900. Click Here for the Specifications.

The screen is large. at 3.8-inch, it is bigger than Apple iPhone 3G and same as HTC Touch HD. The thickness is also same as HTC Touch HD.

On the front, you can see a front camera light sensor, a small speaker for you to listen to your call and an LED indication light (not visible). Also on the front bottom, there are 4 touch buttons. One for answering call, another with a Windows logo (that I think is the standard logo for WM phone), a back button and a end call button. They are blue in colour when you activate them.

On the back is a 3.2 MegaPixels autofocus camera with LED light. The cover for the battery and SIM card. On the back bottom is the speaker to listen to your music.

There are quite a few buttons by the side. On the right side, there are the volume control, MicroSD card slot, the reset button and the camera button.

And the left side is the mini-USB port and the power on/off button.

On the top, there is a big GPS wording and on the bottom, there is a microphone.

It takes some skill to open the back cover. You literally have to pry open it. Once open, you can see the battery and partial of the SIM card.

One of the thingss that I do not see on other phone model is the lock for the battery. It is RED in colour and you have to toggle it to unlock the battery. BTW, did you notice that this handset is manufactured in May, 2009? 🙂 Very new.

The battery capacity is 1530mAh which I think is quite OK.

Here is the SIM card slot.

Here is a close look at the main 3.2 MegaPixels camera with autofocus.

And here is the MicroSD card slot. The review unit does not come with any card.

And this is the battery cover I am talking about. Very difficult to open it or put in back. You need some getting use to. Anyway, as the reset button is outside, there is not much reason for you to open it.

Notice the two little “white fang” at the bottom? They are made of metal and it is a hinge to guide you to install the back cover. Quite sturdy (which I think is needed). Here is a close up shot.

Finally, here is the Stylus. It is retractable with 3 segment.
