iPhone 3.0 really has Cut, Copy & Paste, Push Services, Map API & New Games

Apple finally lets iPhone do the basic function of Cut, Copy and Paste with their latest OS 3.0. They have also announced many other interesting developments on this new OS. They are In-app purchase, peer to peer, accessories, Maps, push notifications, cut/copy/paste, landscape, messages, Voice Memos, Calendar with support for CalDAV, new Stock app, Search, and Spotlight. And they mentioned that these are just part of their hundreds of improvement on this OS 3.0.

Some examples of new features.

  • Push Service in a nutshell is like the service that Mac is having. A third party server performing the backend job.

  • Map API is enabling developer to embed Google Map service into application.

Also mentioned is turn-by-turn instruction is also coming, finally. So, iPhone is going to get directional GPS map. However, there is a catch. They mentioned something also licensing and therefore it may not be using Google Map after all. The key word they used is “Bring Your Own Map (BYOM).

  • New games introduced are Touch Pets, Live Fire where the highlights are they are interactive.
  • Medical devices using bluetooth and etc for your daily health checks.
  • MMS
  • Search functions integrated to other application in iPhone
  • Streaming videos (ESPN)
  • Leaf Trombone (musical instrument from Smules (developer of Ocarina)) that support multiplayer.
  • Copy, Cut and Paste

Now Developers can download the iPhone OS 3.0 SDK beta today. And the rest of the world will get it only in June.

For iPhone users (iPhone 1st generation and iPhone 3G), they will get the OS 3.0 free!
