Exclusive Sony Bravia Launch Event Coverage – Video Within

I was invited to the exclusive launch of Sony latest Bravia LCD TV range. I must say that the highlight of the event is the 9.9mm, thinnest in the world LCD TV, ZX1. It is very, very thin and as always, Sony products really stand out in front of others (Sony didn’t ask me to make this sentence. I am a Sony fan for a long time already 🙂 ).

The event was held at Red Dot Museum which is also part of Red Dot Traffic. This place used to be the old Traffic Police HQ.

The decor of the place was done nicely.

Here are some more shots of the location and the latest Bravia LCD TV range.

This is Z5, the 2nd Generation Motionflow 200Hz Bravia LCD TV. It is flicker free.

This is the thinnest LCD TV that is just 9.9mm thick. The colours produced is amazing.

Here is the side profile. Can you barely see it? I purposely make a tilt to see it more clearly.

If you are thinking how to connect those cables, don’t worry, Sony has taken care of it neatly by introducing a wireless console.

There are other models in the hall. They are the WE5 which is supposed to be super eco friendly and energy saving. It sports a Presence Sensor to turn the TV on or off.

Seriously speaking, the outlook of the Bravia TV is quite similar if you look from the front. You have to look carefully to spot the differences. Anyway, here are some of the interesting ones.

And this is one of the Sony product that I always wanted to take a closer look at. It is the 11.1″ OLED TV that is 3mm thick and only sold in Japan. Too bad, it is not powered up. BTW, it has a 1,000,000:1 contrast !!

We were ushered to another room to begin the presentation. Very nice lightings 🙂 .

The event started by a speech by the Managing Director, Mr. Takeo Kobayashi, of Sony Singapore.

This is followed by two other presenters. They are Simon Sim, Head, HAV Product Marketing and Benjamin Ng, TV Product Manager, HAV Product Marketing from Sony Singapore.

bravia_16

The presentation talks about the roadmap of Sony and one of the topic evolves the misconception of the term LCD backlight TV. Interesting but I guess we are more interested in the close look of the actual products.

I think Sony must have spent a lot on their marketing. They have actually engaged Kaka to be featured in their commercial for the 2nd Generation Motionflow 200Hz BRAVIA LCD TV. Below is the commercial.

Then we moved on to talking about the Eco Friendly WE5 which features the Presence Sensor.

Finally, the presentation touches on the 9.9mm ZX1. During the presentation, Sony also showcased (on video) their OLED technology which I think, one day will become just like any TV.

Finally, just when I thought the presentation finished, we were treated with a live performance. Sorry for the poor video and resolution. You have to watch it live to feel the energy 🙂

We were then ushered to another part of the museum where we really have a close up look at the featured Bravia TVs and Sony Singapore was there to brave our questions (although not much).

The first stop is the WE5 which is Eco Friendly and Energy saving. In the picture below, it shows how much energy usage is the WE5 as compared to other Sony TV.

Next, the 200Hz Motionflow. I tried to capture the differences (which is evident if you watch it live). Here is the result. On the left is a 50Hz Sony TV and on the right is the Z5.

bravia_18

Finally, we were brought to see the ZX1. It shows how Sony wanted to blend the ZX1 to the living room without the clutter. You can see from the picture that the Wireless console is put side-by-side with PlayStation 3. This shows how small the console is.

bravia_19

If you have not taken a good look at the console just now, here is another shot of it.

On the next segment, we were shown how Sony managed to distribute the backlight of the Bravia LCD TV to the whole screen. We were shown a dissected TV screen with the internal layers.

And here is a piece of the glass that distributes the light source evenly.

The event ended with this tour. Hope you enjoyed my coverage. 🙂
