We are leveraging Singapore’s tech-savvy community to generate more awareness for the Million Acts of Green campaign through social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter in addition to the millionactsofgreen.sg website,” he added.

Million Acts of Green Singapore is targeted at both Singaporeans and businesses with the aim of getting them to register their green acts and sustainability ideas on the millionactsofgreen.sg website. Participants can register their green acts by providing a description or photo of the green activities they engage in. Thereafter they can do a ‘shout out’ of their act through Twitter or Facebook to increase awareness and participation in the campaign. The Million Acts of Green Singapore campaign builds on the global Billion Acts of Green campaign by the Earth Day Network and serves as a platform to showcase the nation’s contribution to environmental protection on a global level.

The website will serve as a repository of green acts submitted by individuals and organizations in Singapore. It also features suggestions to guide Singaporeans to get started on their own eco path.

Suggestions include taking public transport and supporting local producers when catering food for corporate events. Further the real time posting of the green acts on the website and the ‘like’ button provides a medium for Singapore to get engaged and vote for the eco ideas most liked thus pushing them into the top 10 acts on the site.

“Salesforce.com Foundation supports organizations that work to make our world a better place. The Million Acts of Green initiative, powered by Force.com, is one of many social initiatives using technology to create positive change in our communities.” Isabel Kelly, International Director, Salesforce Foundation

ECO Singapore’s initiative is jointly supported by Salesforce.com, the National Environmental Agency (NEA), Building Construction Authority (BCA), InfoComm Development Authority (IDA), and Young NTUC. Through such partnerships, ECO Singapore aims to increase environmental awareness on a national level.

About ECO Singapore

Singapore-based Environmental Challenge Organization (ECO Singapore) is the leading non-profit environmental body advocating sustainable lifestyle for youths across a network of seven Commonwealth countries and 15 Singapore-based environmental non-profit groups.

Founded in 2003, ECO Singapore aims to challenge youths of age 17-35 to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and embrace environmental issues holistically.
