We are all the action heroes of our own lives, and every hero needs a soundtrack. It just\u00a0so happens that for software engineers, their soundtracks usually involve Bono.<\/p>\n

Coding today is more complicated than ever, which is unfortunate because open offices\u00a0buzzing with noise are more common than ever \u2013 this is why you usually see\u00a0programmers wearing ear phones to block out ambient noise as they work. In fact, 96%\u00a0of software engineers say they listen to music while coding. Until someone invents a\u00a0mute button for office noise (are you listening, Elon?), headphones will have to do.<\/p>\n

CODERS LIKE LISTENING TO U2, TAYLOR SWIFT AND THE BEATLES AT WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Software engineers are the MVPs of tech, and just like NBA MVPs strutting off the bus\u00a0into the arena, software engineers like to sport those cushy over-ear earphones too; the\u00a0kind that say \u201cI\u2019d rather kick it to my jams than listen to whatever\u2019s going on with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

One in four coders prefer Bose headphones, followed by one in five who like Sony or\u00a0Beats. The rest of them might be listening to music on a record player or something if\u00a0they are hipsters.<\/p>\n

Software engineers over age 35 are 3 times more likely to listen to the radio while coding\u00a0than engineers 35 or younger.<\/p>\n

71% of engineers 35 or younger report listening to music very often or always while\u00a0coding, Only 47% of engineers over 35 do.<\/p>\n

78% of software engineers prefer to listen to music rather than have silence or other\u00a0entertainment while coding. The next highest preference was silence, preferred by only\u00a06%.<\/p>\n

96% of software engineers report listening to music at least some of the time\u00a0Among software engineers, Pandora (29%) is the most popular choice for streaming\u00a0content, followed closely by YouTube (23%) and Spotify (19%)<\/p>\n

Pop is by far the most popular genre for software engineers to listen to (28%), beating\u00a0out the nearest competing genre, Electronic (12%) by more than double. 11% like\u00a0classical music with only 2% preferring reggae.<\/p>\n

80% of software engineers listen to music through headphones<\/p>\n

Bose is the headphone brand of choice with 25% of software engineers reporting using\u00a0them, followed by about 20% each for the Sony and Beats brands<\/p>\n
