Xiaomi will manufacture its first smartphone, the Redmi 2 Prime, in India \u00a0as part of the “Make in \u00a0India”\u00a0initiative. \u00a0And\u00a0Xiaomi has partnered with Foxconn Technology Group to manufacture them. Not sure if our future Xiaomi phones will come from India or not but I think if this can keep the price down, it is still good news to all. More information in the Press Release.<\/p>\n

Xiaomi joins \u2018Make in India\u2019 programme with local manufacturing in Andhra\u00a0Pradesh<\/h2>\n

Redmi 2 Prime is Xiaomi\u2019s first smartphone to be manufactured in India<\/em><\/p>\n

VISAKHAPATNAM, 10 August 2015 \u2013 Leading smartphone company Xiaomi announced today\u00a0that it will now manufacture its devices locally in India, in a show of commitment to Honourable\u00a0Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s \u2018Make in India\u2019 initiative.<\/p>\n

Xiaomi revealed its \u2018Make in India\u2019 plans at a special event today in Visakhapatnam, located in\u00a0the state of Andhra Pradesh, in the presence of Honourable Chief Minister Shri Nara\u00a0Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and\u00a0Promotion (DIPP).<\/p>\n

\u2018Make in India\u2019 was launched by Shri Narendra Modi in September 2014 as a major national\u00a0programme designed to facilitate investment, foster innovation, enhance skill development,\u00a0protect intellectual property and build best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Xiaomi entered India just before then, in July 2014. Its unique and innovative direct-to-consumer\u00a0business model has been instrumental in disrupting the Indian smartphone industry. By\u00a0manufacturing its smartphones in India, Xiaomi is extending its long-term commitment to the\u00a0Indian market. Investments like these set an example for more international players to join the\u00a0‘Make in India’ programme and will play a key role in transforming India into a global\u00a0manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n

Xiaomi has partnered with Foxconn Technology Group to manufacture its smartphones in India.\u00a0The factory is based in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The choice of location is strategic as Andhra\u00a0Pradesh is known to have highly skilled technical manpower, an enterprising population and a\u00a0dynamic emerging leadership \u2013 a combination of factors that make the state appealing to highgrowth\u00a0technological companies such as Xiaomi.<\/p>\n

The first Mi phone to be manufactured in India is Redmi 2 Prime, an enhanced version of Redmi\u00a02 with 2GB RAM and 16GB Flash, which will be available for Rs. 6,999 on Mi.com and other\u00a0partner sites (Flipkart, Amazon, and Snapdeal) starting August 10. Redmi 2 Prime features a\u00a0Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor, 4G Dual SIM support, and a 4.7″ HD display.<\/p>\n

With the memory upgrade, Redmi 2 Prime offers an even smoother user experience and more\u00a0space for apps and media.<\/p>\n

Foxconn has already started producing Redmi 2 Prime at their Sri City factory, and 100% of the\u00a0Redmi 2 Prime units sold in India are made in India.<\/p>\n

Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu said: \u201cWe\u00a0have great faith in young leaders and young companies like Xiaomi. The Ambassador of India to China, His Excellency Mr. Ashok K. Kantha, said: “I\u00a0congratulate Xiaomi on this important milestone in their India journey. As an innovative global\u00a0technology company, the manufacturing of Xiaomi products in India is a demonstration of\u00a0Xiaomi’s commitment to India and a recognition of the potential for win-win economic\u00a0collaborations between India and China.
