Hayley Woo Jiayi took the top honours and was crowned the champion, winning $10,000 in cash and $5,000 worth of iFly Singapore Flight vouchers. Dr Jia Jia was awarded the social media winner, winning $2,000 in cash and $5,000 in flight vouchers. The rest of the personalities, Randall Tan, Munah and May did not walk away empty handed as they too received flight vouchers worth $5,000 for the selected beneficiaries on top of the invaluable experience, taking part in the charity initiative.

Hayley has won $10,000 in cash, and $5,000 worth of flight vouchers at iFly Singapore that will be donated entirely to Club Rainbow (Singapore). iFly Singapore’s charity campaign and online celebrity YouTube series was the first reality series regarding indoor skydiving in the world. It followed 5 Singaporean celebrities and YouTube stars transition from amateur indoor skydivers into proficient flyers, to compete for SGD $37,000 worth of cash and prizes for their selected charities.

So You Think You Can Fly winner, Hayley Woo said, “I am very glad to have been offered this opportunity. I am constantly looking for ways to help out societies in Singapore that provide support to less fortunate children like Club Rainbow (Singapore) and the opportunity presented by iFly Singapore was a truly unique and rewarding one! However, I do want to emphasise that as an individual there are many ways you can contribute to causes you are passionate about. If there is something you feel can be done better, or done differently, a group of people you want to help, just go out there and do it! Just know that no effort is too small and every effort counts!” Hayley Woo adds, “learning to indoor skydive was a bonus. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. In particular the iCount rounds were extremely challenging. iCount was designed to even the grounds between the novice and the pros and we were told that this was attempted by the world’s top indoor skydivers in the Indoor Skydiving World Championships in 2012! So to advance to this level has been enormously satisfying. Mostly, I am delighted to be able to donate the $15,000 worth of cash and prizes to Club Rainbow (Singapore). It is a tremendously important cause and I am honoured to play even the smallest role in helping them out.”

The five personalities, Randall Tan, Hayley Woo, May, Dr Jia Jia and Munah selected beneficiaries with causes close to their hearts. A mature and talented individual, Hayley was motivated to win So You Think You Can Fly for Club Rainbow (Singapore). Growing up, she was exposed to children and friends from less fortunate backgrounds and she’s always explored different ways to provide support to segment in society. Perpetually grateful for her blessings, Hayley was determined that she was to try her best in So You Think You Can Fly for Club Rainbow Singapore and win the grand prize and flight vouchers for the children in their support networks. She has managed to single-handedly raise $10,000 in cash for the cause and an additional $5,000 worth of flight vouchers that will be donated to the organisation. These flights will be used by patients, caregivers in Club Rainbow (Singapore) network and for the support staff’s benefit.

The other personalities who won $5,000 worth of flight vouchers at iFly Singapore for their charities include Randall Tan, Munah, May and Dr Jia Jia, who won the Social Media contest organised by iFly Singapore. He will be donating his $2,000 cash prize to 3 charities, namely Children’s Cancer Foundation, Save Our Street Dogs and World Vision Singapore. The additional cash prize came as a donation made by Mr Tan Wang Cheow, raised during the launch of the campaign. To motivate Founder and Managing Director of iFly Singapore, Lawrence Koh to push himself as far as he could for a good cause, Mr Tan decided to increase the pool of cash for the charity campaign by pledging $100 in cash for every minute Lawrence Koh successfully surpasses the previous Guinness World Record of the Longest Indoor Freefall that stood at 4hrs 2mins.

Mr Koh, together with Chief Instructor of iFly Singapore, Kristopher Reynolds broke the record by 20 minutes and the current record now stands at 4hrs 22 mins 20 seconds. This has been verified by the organisers of the records, Guinness World Records Ltd. As for the $5,000 worth of flight vouchers, Dr Jia Jia has decided to pledge it to Children’s Cancer Foundation for the benefit of their patients, care givers and staff, which form the bedrock of the organisation’s noble efforts.

Handpicked for their passion in charity work and strong, personal motivations, the celebrities and YouTube stars were approached to be part of iFly Singapore’s inaugural charity initiative pro-bono. Each stood a chance to win cash and prizes for their selected beneficiaries and the rare opportunity to pick up the sport, fully sponsored by the company. In a bid to raise awareness for their charities and their journeys, iFly Singapore decided to organise a digital campaign which saw the development of the 5 episode YouTube reality series and a Facebook contest. This encouraged fans to vote for their favourite celebrities and charities, and share the campaign with their networks. The campaign saw an impressive total of 10,000 views and an estimated 250,000 social media impressions across iFly Singapore’s owned social media properties, the personalities’ and their respective charities.

Trained by iFly Singapore’s world class, IBA (“International Bodyflight Association”) certified trainer, Jason Lim, the personalities went through an intensive training programme over a 6 week period to finally compete in the final competition that concluded yesterday. The finale event put the personalities up against each other in a series of 5 rounds. Round one saw the personalities complete “Follow the leader” which required them to mimic manoeuvres demonstrated by iFly Singapore’s Youth ambassador and Guinness World Record holder, 13 year old Choo Yi Xuan.

In rounds 2 to 4, the personalities completed “iCount”, a test of flight skill and basic calculus, designed by Lawrence Koh for the best-of-the-best in indoor skydiving during the World Championships held at iFly Singapore in 2012. iCount was developed to level the playing field between the varying levels of skill between indoor skydivers who took part in the World Championships. The 5th and final round required the personalities to achieve as many horizontal 360 degree turns as possible. The result of this round also saw Hayley Woo set the Guinness World Record of “Most number of horizontal 360 degree spins in one minute” in the wind tunnel by completing 26 successful turns.

The full list of personalities and their not for profit charities is: Randall Tan , Singapore Cancer Society, Hayley Woo, Club Rainbow (Singapore), May, Lupus Association Singapore, Dr Jia Jia, Children Cancer Foundation, World Vision International and Save Our Street Dogs and Munah, Happy People Helping People. Prior to the finale event, CEO’s, Managing Directors and Executives from all the charities were invited down to experience indoor skydiving at iFly Singapore first hand.

Speaking at the finale, iFly Singapore Founder and Director Mr Lawrence Koh said, “We are delighted that we have been able to reach out to the different charities represented in the So You Think You Can Fly campaign. The team and I at iFly Singapore are really looking forward to the opportunity to host all those beneficiaries from the selected charities and extending the opportunity to fly to all those involved in carrying out the work that these wonderful organisations do. iFly Singapore has been looking to extend our Social Responsibility program for a while now, and the So You Think You Can Fly Campaign has been an excellent platform for us to be able to give back a small amount to the community.

Hopefully the relationships that we have been able to build with these charities will be the beginning of a long lasting partnership. I’m also very impressed and appreciative of the celebrities’ commitment towards charities, making time for their training and we now have another Guinness World Record holder!”.

So You Think You Can Fly will officially wrap up when the final episode is released on iFly Singapore’s Facebook and You Tube channels on 3rd July 2014. Please refer to Appendix 1 for a fact sheet of the campaign and Appendix 2 for the personalities’ biographies.

About iFly Singapore

iFly Singapore is located at Siloso beach at Sentosa.
