This year\u2019s headline activities include The Big Race<\/i>, an island-wide search for Singapore\u2019s fastest race driver and this year\u2019s SingTel Grid Girls starring in The Singapore Factor, <\/i>which will see the eight finalists entertain with a series of uniquely Singapore challenges.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a homegrown brand and Title Sponsor for the sixth year, we are constantly looking for ways to capture the hearts and minds of Singaporeans with unique F1\u00ae<\/sup> experiences,\u201d said Mr Allen Lew, Country Chief Officer Singapore, SingTel. \u201cThis year, we\u2019re going local on all possible fronts. They\u2019ll even have a chance to take the driver\u2019s seat in a race to the chequered flag.\u201d<\/p>\n The search for the first Singaporean to take the chequered flag <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n An island-wide search for Singapore\u2019s fastest race driver begins today in The Big Race.<\/i> Local celebrities and self-proclaimed Formula 1\u00ae<\/sup> fans, Joanne Peh, Qi Yuwu, Pei Fen and Romeo Tan, will take their marks to clock their fastest lap times in the Official F1\u00ae<\/sup> racing game.<\/p>\n The search for the best race drivers in Singapore will follow at a series of four roadshows where the public is invited to try their hand at the game. The fastest racer from each roadshow will team up with a celebrity racer in an ultimate race finale and the winner will be announced on 22 September 2013 to win a once-in-a-lifetime F1\u00ae<\/sup> driving experience in Europe. This exciting showdown will be seen at key locations around Singapore.<\/p>\n The 2013 SingTel Grid Girls in The Singapore Factor<\/i> <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Eight fresh-faced ladies aged 18 to 26, have been chosen as this year\u2019s SingTel Grid Girl finalists. Since the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix in 2008, the SingTel Grid Girls have been a star attraction of the race, vying for top honour and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hold the Singapore Formula One\u00ae<\/sup> and Singapore GP flags at the Singapore Grand Prix.<\/p>\n This year, the public can choose their favourite via SMS and online voting to select the top three SingTel Grid Girls. The Singapore Factor, <\/i>a series of webisodes hosted by Paul Foster, will put the girls\u2019 knowledge of the Lion City to the test in a trio of uniquely Singaporean challenges. Fans can follow the journey at www.singtelrace.com<\/a> from 21 August 2013.<\/p>\n The top three SingTel Grid Girls will be crowned before thousands of Singaporeans at the Thursday Pit Lane Experience on 19 September 2013.<\/p>\n Local designers take centre stage at this year\u2019s F1\u00ae<\/sup><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n In support of the local fashion scene, SingTel collaborated with PARCO next NEXT – a fashion design incubator project built to nurture award-winning local talent. Samuel Wong from local menswear label, Evenodd, had the opportunity to inject a fresh and sporty-luxe design to this year\u2019s SingTel Grid Girls\u2019 uniforms.<\/p>\n SingTel also collaborated with established local jewellery and gift designer, Risis, to create this year\u2019s Singapore Grand Prix trophy. The first Singapore Grand Prix trophy to be designed by a home-grown company, the trophy design was inspired by the iconic Singapore skyline and is accentuated with signature gold swirls to represent the Singapore racetrack from an aerial view.<\/p>\n F1\u00ae<\/sup> in Schools <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n To nurture interest in motorsports among the youth, this year SingTel sponsored all 24 teams taking part in the F1\u00ae<\/sup> in Schools programme. This is a multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students aged nine to 19 collaborate to design, manufacture and race miniature cars. The winning teams from Henderson Secondary School (F1 Competitive Category), Raffles Girls\u2019 Secondary School (Bloodhound Competitive Category) and Yuhua Secondary School (Bloodhound Novice Category) will go on to compete in an international championship.<\/p>\n
