I have an interesting read on the new “Terms of Use” that is set to be effective from 16th January 2013 for Instagram. It is interesting that they mentioned they don’t own any of your content (pictures) but “you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service..<\/em><\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

There is a whole lot more (see picture above). I think you will need someone with legal knowledge to advise you if you found one of your pictures somewhere where you don’t desire.<\/p>\n

If you compare the future Terms of Use<\/a> and the current Terms of Use<\/a>, you will see that the current Terms of Use (before Facebook bought over Instagram) is simpler. There is a line that says that there might be advertisement on Instagram (which never happen yet).<\/p>\n

may display advertisements and promotions, and you hereby agree that Instagram may place such advertising and promotions on the Instagram Services or on, about, or in conjunction with your Content.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I think the current one is more acceptable. The new Terms of Use is a lot more difficult to understand. Are you going to be worried?<\/p>\n

In my opinion, when you decide to upload pictures to a service, you will have to accept whatever terms that they have spelled out. If you don’t agree, you can close the account and move on.<\/p>\n

I guess most will continue to post pictures and Facebook Instagram will observe the backlash before they will take any move.<\/p>\n
