Kaspersky Lab Patents Cutting-edge Technology to Combat Increasingly Sophisticated Malware<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Singapore \u2013 22 June 2009 \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content-management solutions, announces the successful patenting of cutting-edge information-security technology in the US.\u00a0 This specific technology effectively detects and deletes malicious software and removes any trace of its effects by running automatically generated scripts. <\/span><\/p>\n

Today\u2019s computers are exposed to a growing number of increasingly complex and rapidly changing malicious programmes. \u00a0Greater emphasis is now being placed on automatic-protection methods that ensure fast data processing and prompt responses to threats. \u00a0However, such technologies often generate false positives or suffer from low levels of new threat detection. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis technology helps increase response times to newly emerging threats and streamlines the users\u2019 communication with technical-support service.\u00a0 The fuzzy logic and artificial-intelligence systems incorporated in the patented technology, build up knowledge that can be classified and used to carry out self-training,\u201d says the inventor of the technology, Oleg Zaytsev, <\/span>a senior technical specialist at Kaspersky Lab. \u00a0The patent for the new technology and its implementation was registered as No. 7\u00a0540\u00a0030 by the US Patent Bureau on 26 May 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recently patented technology from Kaspersky Lab is an effective combination of existing and newly developed methods to combat malicious software.\u00a0 Its automated methods are effective at processing large volumes of data.\u00a0 Moreover, processing and storing large volumes of information is advantageous in that it helps optimise and train the protection system, whilst security experts have the option of adjusting and fine-tuning the protection system as it operates. <\/span><\/p>\n

This combination produces a synergy effect that saves resources and provides a high level of malware detection. \u00a0Use of empirical data and the system\u2019s learning capabilities enables a gradual specialisation and perfection of its functions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The patented system automatically aggregates statistics on programmes and their activities. \u00a0Information is collected from event logs, system scan results and user records about quarantined files.\u00a0 The data are used to identify malware, automatically generate scripts to remove detected threats, and carry out an in-depth analysis of the system.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scripts generated by the system can be improved by computer-security specialists, which may be beneficial in cases where the system does not have sufficient knowledge to develop and take decisions in complex situations. \u00a0This allows subsequent problems of a similar nature to be resolved automatically. \u00a0In other words, as the amount of statistical data collected increases with time, the system operates more effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kaspersky Lab currently has more than 30 patent applications pending in the US and Russia related to a range of innovative technologies developed by company personnel.<\/span><\/p>\n
