As mentioned in this post<\/a>, Samsung was one of the phone suppliers at Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 event. Its latest Windows Phone device, Samsung Omnia W, was also present.<\/p>\n

If you are expecting something special out of this Samsung Omnia W, don’t. Unlike Samsung Galaxy S II, this phone does not stand out from the crowd. It is black in color and looks ordinary. However, if you dig the specs and look at the price (S$498 (inclusive of GST), without line contract), you will take a second look.<\/p>\n

It has a 1.4 GHz processor with a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display, an internal memory of 8GB with 512MB RAM, plus quite a large battery (1,500 mAh) and a light weight of 115.3 grams.<\/p>\n

I took some time to take a look at Windows Phone 7.5. Here are some of the things that I like.<\/p>\n

Internet Sharing or Tethering<\/span><\/h2>\n

This has been a long awaited feature on Windows Phone. Based on the information from the Internet, only the new WP7.5 devices will have this function. For older devices, you will not be able to see this in “Settings”.<\/p>\n

Having said that, we actually asked the question during the launch event. It seems that older devices will eventually gets an update to activate this function. Looking forward to it.<\/p>\n

Grouping on People Hub<\/span><\/h2>\n

This feature is important if you are sending out a mass email. With Group, you can select one and send to many. Nice!<\/p>\n

Social Integration into OS<\/span><\/h2>\n

Unlike most OSes, you will need a separate app for social activities. For Windows Phone 7.5, it is already integrated into the OS. A chat with a friend now does not means just SMSes, you can now chat with the person on Messenger, Twitter, Facebook and etc. In my video below, you can see these selections.<\/p>\n
