Just updated today, GPStuner has added offline map function for its Turn On – Turn by Trun Navigation app for Windows Phone 7. That means I can rely lesser on my data for navigation.<\/p>\n

I love this app very much. The full version will set you back by S$7.99. The trial version is free for you to use, except that it can only route within 12 miles (about 20km).<\/p>\n

Now, it has added offline map to its features.<\/p>\n

On the picture above, you can see the green portion. That is after I used the paintbrush to paint over it (to indicate that I want to download these portions) and downloaded them completely.<\/p>\n

So use the offline map, you will need to access the settings to activate “Minimize Data Roaming”.<\/p>\n

I did a comparison check on the map quality before and after the settings.<\/p>\n

It uses data to download the map.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

It uses the offline map that was previously downloaded.<\/p>\n

As you can see, the quality is very different. For the offline map, it is very limited. You cannot zoom in too much as it will become pixelated.<\/p>\n

Summary<\/span><\/h2>\n

Overall, this is a good navigation app. It has clear voice guidance and orientation. However, the search function is actually very limited. I wonder if it is because it is using Bing Map (which has little information of Singapore). Most of the time, I will search manually for the place and set it as a favorite.<\/p>\n

For the offline map, I wish it has a quality function for users to decide. But I think that it is good enough if data connection is an issue. Do bear in mind that routing will still requires data connection.<\/p>\n

I have not bought the app. Hopefully, if they have more features (which I saw in their other app, Outdoor Navigation) like 25 maps type, track recording, dropbox integration and etc.<\/p>\n

There are many other navigation apps that I have not tried. So, it is not fair for me to comment if this is the best app. Here is a video on how it works.<\/p>\n
