I was invited to Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy S II launch. I think I will split up my event coverage in three different blog posts. So, my first blog post will be on Galaxy Tab 10.1.<\/p>\n

BTW, this is the slim version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and NOT the one that we saw (in Singapore) during the March 2011 Samsung Forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At first, I thought that the only changes from the thicker one and this slim version is the trimming down on the thickness. I was WRONG. Thanks to YK Lee. He pointed out that the specs that I put out<\/a> should be a 8-Megapixel rear camera instead of 3 Megapixels.<\/p>\n

I changed it but after some thoughts on the look of the actual lens itself (plus the press release and specs<\/a> which matches 3 Megapixels) and the one that I saw in March<\/a>, I am sure now that the camera has been downgraded to 3 Megapixels. Here is a comparison of the rear camera between the thin and the thick one.<\/p>\n

As you can see, it is different and I think the flash has also been changed. I checked the Press Release<\/a> Samsung issued in February and the one Samsung issued yesterday<\/a>. It clearly mentions the rear camera specs correctly.<\/p>\n

Now, I understand why Samsung Galaxy S II (16 GB)(S$998) is more expensive than Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (16GB)(S$848). The biggest differences are the Processor speed and the camera and I think one of the biggest factor is to match the competitor. Enough of my ranting (I have to do it as I might have confused many people with my wrong updates earlier on).<\/p>\n

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is very light at 565 grams (for 3G version). It is very thin and Samsung has list out 3 main features of the Tab.<\/p>\n

On top of that, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a list of features that differentiate itself from the competition.<\/p>\n

I like USB OTG. It is very useful as anyone can just plug in a thumbdrive to access the content. We were not able to see the new TouchWiz UX as it is not “ready”. And yes, the Tab 10.1 will come in White (and black).<\/p>\n

Do note that it is not pure white. The front is still black. Only the back is white.<\/p>\n

Notice how thin the tablet is. This led to our quest to find out which is thinner, the iPad 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Based on specs, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is 8.6mm thin and the iPad 2 is 8.8 mm thin. It is difficult to use our visual to see the differences.<\/p>\n

Can you see the differences. I seriously cannot but I guess the difference in weight does make a difference. From users of iPad 2, they mentioned that iPad 2 felt “heavier” than Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This, no doubt, is true as the difference in weight between both of them (3G version) is 48 grams (iPad 2: 613g, Galaxy Tab 10.1: 565g).<\/p>\n

During this event, Samsung showcased a few accessories for the tablet.<\/p>\n

Anyway, on a final note, Samsung assure us that there will still be the 7-inch, the 10.1-inch and the “coming soon” 8.9-inch.<\/p>\n

And for those who are serious about getting one, here is the price table.<\/p>\n
