Keyword searches increased by 100 folds<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SEA users pay close attention to radiation issue; Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea users are concerned with energy resources<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>2011\/04\/21 SINGAPORE \u2013 <\/strong>The  devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami caused severe damage in  Japan. The resulting crisis in Fukushima further heightened awareness  around the world on nuclear disasters.<strong> <\/strong>According to Yahoo! APAC  search keyword statistics, APAC countries followed the progress of the  nuclear crisis very closely in the week following the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Keyword  search volume related to nuclear crisis increased 784 times in  Southeast Asian countries with Malaysia recording the highest at 78,400  per cent for its topmost keyword search \u201cJapan nuclear\u201d, within the  first week of the nuclear crisis.<\/p>\n<p>In  Singapore, \u201cNuclear meltdown\u201d, \u201cNuclear\u201d and \u201cNuclear plant\u201d were the  most-searched keywords and grew by 9,300 per cent. Other  environment-related searches such as \u201cGlobal warming\u201d, \u201cEarth Hour\u201d and  \u201cNuclear radiation\u201d saw close to 80 per cent increase among users.<\/p>\n<p>The  Japan nuclear crisis also shed new light on words that were once  distant to us. A review of key search words revealed that \u201cNuclear  leak\u201d, \u201cRadioactive pollution\u201d and \u201cChernobyl disaster\u201d ranked as top  three hot searches in Southeast Asian countries.<\/p>\n<p>The  crisis also triggered searches on \u2018harmful effects of radiation\u2019,  \u2018protection against radioactive pollution\u2019 and \u2018advantages of nuclear  power plant\u2019, reflecting thoughts on topics beyond nuclear crisis to  understand its far-reaching effects.<\/p>\n<p>Aside  from searching for key words, Indonesia saw a 10300 per cent jump in  discussion threads relating to the \u201cdangers of nuclear radiation\u201d and  \u201cimpact of nuclear radiation\u201d while Malaysia reported on 8600 per cent  increase in searches relating to \u201cpros and cons of nuclear leak\u201d.  \u201cNuclear Meltdown\u201d and \u201cNuclear Plant\u201d dominated the search results for  Singaporeans while Philippine users revisited \u201cChernobyl disaster  pictures\u201d causing 18000 per cent increase.<\/p>\n<p>Henryl  Moreno, Manager, Editorial for Search &amp; Platforms in Southeast  Asia, said, \u201cThe search volume for relevant keywords such as \u201cnuclear  power\u201d and \u201cradiation\u201d increased significantly after Japan\u2019s  mega-earthquake. This highlights the concern among users for their own  personal safety and the protection of the environment, as well as the  need for governments to work together on international issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The  theme for Earth Day this year is \u201cA Billion Acts of Green\u201d.
