I was invited by Sony Ericsson<\/a> to have a feel on their latest Smartphones, namely, the SE Xperia arc, neo and the PLAY. I will separate the blog posts to have a more focus look at each Android handset. The first one that captures the most attention is of course the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY<\/a>.<\/p>\n

First impression of SE Xperia PLAY (all capital letters) is it is heavy and bulky. Here is a closeup of the game pad with the gaming buttons that most Sony Playstation gamers would be familiar. The slide out game pad reveals a digital D pad, two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four PlayStation icons: circle, cross, square and triangle.<\/p>\n

This Xperia PLAY is the first Android Smartphone to be Playstation certified. When the game pad is not slide out, it feels like a normal Smartphone. It has a 4-inch screen and a front facing VGA camera.<\/p>\n

This phone is built for gaming on the move. Actually, the phone was thought to be named as Playstation Phone in the initial leaks.But finally, it ends up with the name, PLAY.<\/p>\n

The SE Xperia PLAY has stereo speakers so that when you are gaming or playing music, you are sure to enjoy them.<\/p>\n

Here is a video of the physical look of the phone. BTW, it is running on Android Gingerbread (Android 2.3.2) as shown in the video.<\/p>\n

So, how does PLAY fares when playing games? From a non-gamer point of view, I am enjoying it. Once you start playing the games, you forgot that you are actually holding on to a Smartphone. According to Sony Ericsson, you can have a battery life of approximately 5 hours while playing games on PLAY.<\/p>\n

The buttons are sensitive and responsive. However, I have little use with the touch sensitive pad. According to SE, there are more than 50 games that are enhanced to use the game pad. More titles will be added (or have been added) to the collection.<\/p>\n

I tried Bruce Lee and Star Battalion. Here is a short video of the game play.<\/p>\n

Overall, I find that the game<\/del> phone a little bulky but the gaming part of it is good. If you are someone that likes to play more sophisticated games on the move, this may be the one phone you are looking for.<\/p>\n
