Review: Casetify UV Sanitizer Kills 99.9% Germs in 3 Minutes

The Casetify UV Sanitizer finally arrived since I pre-ordered it in early-April 2020. If you have noticed, UV light has been constantly being mentioned during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Although there is no scientific study that UV light can kill COVID-19, it is good to know that the UV light can kill germs and UV Sanitizer from Casetify can kill up to 99.9% of the germs in just 3 minutes, according to their website.

Here is an unboxing video with a demonstration on how it works. Check it out.

Here are some questions about the Casetify UV Sanitizer found in their FAQ. I chose these two because I think many might be interested.

  1. How does the UV Sanitizer work?
    • The UV Sanitizer emits UV-C light to kill germs on objects placed inside the compartment within a short period of time, without additional use of any liquid / chemicals.
  2. What is UV-C light?
    • UV-C light is a short-wavelength ultraviolet light that destroys nucleic acids in microorganisms and disrupts their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions. Most bacteria, viruses and mold exposed to UV-C light will be killed/inactivated, and UV-C may even neutralize “superbugs” that are antibiotics-resistant.

The Physical Product

A very simple casing and just one big button which acts as an indicator of the UV lamp. When UV lamp is on, it will be blinking the blue light. When it is off, it will be a solid blue light.

Above the big button is the wireless charger indication. Pressing the big button will activate the wireless charging and the wireless charging light indicator light will turn on.

Here is the instruction on how to use from Casetify website.

How To Use

  1. Connect USB cable to product type-C interface. The circular button stays on for 8 hours.
  2. Sterilization: Place your device flat into the box so it can close securely. The circular indicator light (not a blue dot indicator) flashes for 3 minutes until sterilization is complete.
  3. Wireless Charging: Put the wireless supporting devices inside the sanitizer. Close the lid and press the blue button. The blue dot light will be on to indicate that the wireless charging is activated. The phone screen must face up.

Note: If the circular button is pressed for 3-5 sec, a 15-min intensive sanitization would be activated (blue circular button light continuously flashes).

When you open the lid up, you can see the pad (black in color) and the 6 UV-C LEDs.

It is quite spacious and able to fit most big phones (one at a time).

On the back, it has the rubber stopper and nothing else.

On the side, it has the USB-C port that you can connect the cable to the power source.

More about the UV-C LEDs. There are a total of 6 of them circled as shown below.

There is NO WAY for me to know if they are working or not. UV is Ultra Violet light which is beyond normal human eyes to see. And with safety precaution, it will automatically turn off when you open the lid.

I have to trust that it is working fine unless I can measure the germs before and after going through the light. BTW, do note that UV light is harmful to the body.

Summary

The Casetify UV Sanitizer is a very simple product using the simple fact that UV light can kill germs. What draws me to it is that it can disinfect in 3 minutes whereas I saw some products that need 10 to 15 minutes. However, the price is a killer. At USD120, many will be thinking that there are many out there at cheaper pricing.

This is absolutely true. I bought it in April and based on Casetify website, 100% of its proceeds went to GlobalGiving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund in March and April 2020. That’s $100,000 to help send medical responders, essential supplies, and food to communities in need. I have no regrets.
