This is another blow to Huawei, although not a big one. VideoLAN, the popular VLC media player app company, has officially announced that they have blacklisted Huawei’s latest phones on Google Play Store.
In one of their Tweets, they mentioned that Huawei has a “ridiculous” policy of killing background apps that breaks VLC audio background playback.
PSA: @HuaweiMobile phones are now blacklisted and cannot get VLC on the Play Store.
Their ridiculous policy of killing all background apps (except their own) breaks VLC audio background playback (of course).

And shortly after, in another tweet, they clarify that only the recent phones from Huawei are affected.
NB: Please note that this is not for all Huawei phones but just the recent ones.
NB2: You can always download the apk from our website.— VideoLAN (@videolan) July 25, 2018
As mentioned earlier, this is “another” blow for Huawei because Huawei phones are not allowed to be sold in the US due to concern about spying through their products. Check out this article by CNET to understand more.
And more recently, Huawei also got into the spotlight as Australia expresses “concerns that Beijing could force the Chinese telco to hand over sensitive data” on their 5G project, according to this report from Reuters. And Australia is said to be “preparing to ban Huawei from 5G Project over security fears”.
However, not to worry. Fans of VLC can still download the app.
How to Download VLC app on Huawei Phones
1. Go to VLC website on your computer. Note that if you are on a blacklisted Huawei phone, it will show a “not compatible device” on Google Play Store.
2. Select “Others Systems” from the drop-down list.
3. Select “Get VLC for Android”
4. Click on the “APK Package” on this page
5. Choose the correct APK for your phone
6. Save the APK to your computer and transfer to your Huawei phone
7. Install the APK on your Huawei phone. Ensure that you allow app installation on from external sources (go to settings).
I think that is it! Not so difficult. However, performance-wise, you have to be the judge.
