OPPO R11s and R11s Plus Launch in Singapore

Last Thursday, OPPO launched the OPPO R11s and R11s Plus in Singapore. Thanks to their invite, I was able to witness the launch. I am quite surprised at their pricing. More information below.

If you are in Orchard area, do go and check out ‘The Playground,’ an interactive OPPO-themed pop-up store just outside Wisma Atria’s main entrance.

The pop-up store will be there from now until 25th December (12pm to 10pm). You can try out the phones yourselves. There are a few stations where you can put the phone to test with a lot of photo opportunities.

For those who want to see how the OPPO R11s looks like, check out the next few photos. In my opinion, most phones are going towards bezel-less (almost) with minimum top and bottom space on it. OPPO latest R-series is also following this trend.

Close up of the front camera.

Here is the back view with two rear cameras and the fingerprint sensor. From OPPO, they have made the fingerprint sensor in the shape of a fingerprint.

OPPO has a unique configuration for their dual camera system. One of them (16MPX) is for daylight and the other one (20MPX) is for low-light conditions. Here is a close up of the rear camera system.

On the bottom, it has the usual speaker, charging/data transfer Micro-USB port and the 3.5mm jack. OPPO has retained the 3.5mm jack which might be good news for some people.

One of the interesting observation is that the bottom has a concave portion where the port, the speaker, and the earphone jack sits. This, in my opinion, is a brilliant design because it allows the sound to project out if it is being blocked on a flat surface.

For the rest of the views, they are basically similar to many phones nowadays.

These are the colors available for Singapore market.

OPPO launches R11s and R11s Plus, the latest models to take smartphone photography to a new level

Featuring dual primary rear cameras, as well as AI Beauty Recognition technology for the front camera, the R11s and R11s Plus provides an advanced level of light sensitivity and quality for images, portraits and selfies.

23 November 2017, Singapore — Leading camera phone brand, OPPO, has launched the R11s and R11s Plus in Singapore, the latest additions to its top-of-the-line R Series range that brings cutting-edge technology to offer users a better smartphone photography experience.

The R11s and R11s Plus are OPPO’s latest flagship camera phones featuring dual 16MP and 20MP rear cameras that pack a powerful punch, performing as two primary cameras under different light conditions when capturing portrait shots.

Together with the rear cameras, both phones feature a 20MP front camera that utilises OPPO’s ground-breaking AI Beauty Recognition technology that recognises different human subjects in a selfie and makes customised beautification enhancements that appear subtle and natural.

With a higher sensitivity to light and a large aperture, images taken with the R11s and R11s Plus are clearer and brighter, and the viewing experience is enhanced with a 6.01-inch full-screen display and an 85.8 percent screen-to-body ratio on the R11s. On the other hand, the R11s Plus comes with a sizable 6.43-inch full-screen display.

Jeremy Tan, Product Manager at OPPO Singapore, said: “We seek perfection in what we do and never stop to refine our products. It is this focus that drives us to develop the best camera phones for Singaporean consumers at the best price-performance points.”

“The new approach we have taken with the dual primary rear cameras and AI Beauty Recognition technology for the front camera brings a higher level of light sensitivity and quality for any picture taken. We believe these technological advances make the R11s and R11s Plus one of the best camera phones available today,” he said.

New technology for the best photography on a smartphone

The dual rear cameras have been re-engineered to capture the highest quality of portraits for both day and night conditions.

The 16MP and 20MP rear cameras function as primary cameras under different light conditions. The 16MP rear camera takes on the primary role of normal everyday shots in brightly lit environments, while the 20MP high definition camera becomes the main camera for low-light environments. It will intelligently fuse 2.0µm pixels to quadruple (4X) the size of the photosensitive area of the sensor, increasing the overall sensitivity to light for all images.

Both cameras have a large f/1.7 aperture, allowing more light into the device. The dual camera set-up can also intelligently gauge distances between the phone and subject, creating soft and natural depth-of-field effects that highlight the subject. With a large aperture in normal daylight and software treatment, the bokeh effect looks real and natural.

OPPO’s AI Beauty Recognition technology on the front camera scans for 254 facial recognition points in 3D for each subject, references them against a database of facial images, and analyses features based on gender, age, skin texture, skin colour, expression and environment scenarios before making customised enhancements for each subject.

Simple yet bold design

The R11s takes on a new approach to design. The 6.01-inch FHD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 2160 x 1080 dpi offers users a vivid and outstanding visual display without having to increase the overall size of the phone. The R11s is available in black, champagne and red. The red model is a special variant, developed with a unique starry sky screen.

Equipped with a bigger screen, the R11s Plus offers a longer battery life, more RAM than the R11s, and is available in champagne and black.

Applying user-experience design and technical innovation, the R11s and R11s Plus are re-engineered to make video watching and gaming more comfortable. Port modules such as the headphone jack, speaker and mini USB port were shrunk further and fitted into the crescent arcs – the concave, indented bottom edges of the phones. This results in better sound projection without the user’s hands blocking the speakers during gameplay or watching videos, whilst at the same time enhancing the firm grip through a slimmer and sleeker body.

Enhanced user experience with ColorOS 3.2

The R11s and R11s Plus run on ColorOS 3.2 which has an overall smoother performance, is faster and safer, and even enables users to multitask using the split screen mode. Facial unlock uses AI to recognise the user, and can unlock the phone in just 0.08 seconds. Other unlocking functions such as password and a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phones have also been made available.

When it comes to the CPU, it will switch to a high-performance mode when users activate the gaming app. While in this mode, the R11s and R11s Plus process gaming graphics at 60 frames per second (fps), double the rate of 30fps in other standard phones. The gameplay is more fluid, will not hang or pause*, or miss any frames that can affect multi-player games. While gaming, incoming calls, alarm clock and calendar alerts will only be notified as a banner on the screen, resulting in uninterrupted gameplay.
