New WhatsApp Features You May Not Know

Recently, WhatsApp has rolled out a few new features. If you don’t explore the app, you might not notice them. Here are the six new features on WhatsApp.

Feature 1 – More Typography feature

WhatsApp has added more typography on its app. Previously, you can only do “BOLD” or “ITALIC”. Now, it has added “Strikethrough” and “Monospace”.

To use them, select the text you want and press “MORE” (for Android). You will be able to see these four functions.

BTW, you can use symbols to perform these task: –

  1. Bold – To bold your message, place an asterisk on both sides of the text, like so:
    • *text*
  2. Italic – To italicize your message, place an underscore on both sides of the text, like so:
    • _text_
  3. Strikethrough – To strikethrough your message, place a tilde on both sides of the text, like so:
    • ~text~
  4. Monospace – To monospace your message, place three backticks on both sides of the text, like so:
    • “`text“`

Here is the end result (after you send).

Feature 2 – Change the Wallpaper

Did you know you can now change the wallpaper of WhatsApp? Go to any chat and press the 3 dots (for Android). You will be able to see “Wallpaper” option.

You can also download more wallpaper from WhatsApp Wallpaper app.

Feature 3 – Update status with Text, and Change Background Color and Fonts

Now, you can have the option to update your status on WhatsApp with text. And within the same option, you can choose different background colors and fonts. Just tap on the respective icons.

Feature 4 – Image Filters

Once you have selected an image or taken a picture on the WhatsApp app, you can swipe up to apply a filter on it. Currently, it has limited filters.

BTW, the picture on the above left is the results of the Status Update (yes, TechieLobang is now Mobile Friendly). And currently, Filters on WhatsApp is for Beta user. So, you might not be able to see this feature yet. BTW, my current WhatsApp version (on Android) is 2.17.325.

Feature 5 – Send and Receive any Document

Finally, you can send or receive any document on WhatsApp. Previously, although it states the same “Document”, it can only send limited types of file. Now, you can send any files (limited to 100mb).

Feature 6 – Pin a Conversation

You can now pin up to 3 conversations. Just press and hold the conversation you want to pin and the pin option will appear. Press on the pin icon to select.

That is it. All 6 features. If you have more, let me know.
