PopScoot e-Scooter Sharing Platform is Your Last Mile Solution (Video)

I believe you have heard enough of bike-sharing platform. Although they are good last mile solutions, you will need pedal power to reach your destination. Come September, PopScoot will be able to help you reach your destination without breaking a sweat with their e-scooter co-sharing platform.

As the name implies, it is battery powered last mile solution. Just hit the throttle (lever in this case) and you can move on to your destination. Like current bike sharing platform, you can use their app to unlock the e-scooter and lock it back once you reach your destination.

During the initial phase, it will be deployed at ManuLife Centre, Republic Plaza, Tiong Bahru Plaza and City Square Mall only. I will skip the intro video. Instead, here is a video to show you how you can use the app to rent and return the e-scooter.

As more people are turning to e-mobility devices to travel, I believe PopScoot will definitely benefit from it. However, looking at how some people ride their e-scooters on the pavement or park connectors, I have some concerns.

The learning curve for e-scooter is very low. If you know how to ride a bicycle, you will usually have no problem on a e-scooter. However, not everyone knows how to control a battery-powered PEV or PMD. If you are not careful, you might injure yourself or others.

Maybe more events like Car-free Sunday or iWheel4fun can help our nation learn how to co-exist with the increasing e-mobility devices.

Congrats to PopScoot on their debut of the e-scooter co-sharing platform in Singapore. Read the Press Release for more information

Press Release

PopScoot to debut e-scooter sharing platform to revolutionise last-mile commute in Singapore

Exclusive coverage in prime downtown clusters and the heartlands; largest fleet and stations across the island; unique instantaneous unlocking Bluetooth app system

Singapore, 28 August 2017 – PopScoot, a Singapore-based company, will be the first to bring smart urban mobility to key downtown commercial, hospitality and retail clusters as well as the heartlands in September, via a new electric scooter co-sharing platform. Meanwhile, a soft launch near the end of August will see pilot docks deployed at ManuLife Centre, Republic Plaza, Tiong Bahru Plaza and City Square Mall. With PopScoot, urbanites, tourists and delivery riders will enjoy easy, anytime access to last mile transit “without breaking a sweat”.

The first platform to use a Bluetooth app-based unlocking system, PopScoot releases e-scooters from their docks instantaneously when activated through mobile phones. The in-app GPS provides the ability to locate available scooters around the island and track the travelling route of users. As a location-based mobile solution, it is also able to turn docking locations into data hotspots in the future.

PopScoot is capable of deploying both a dockless system supported by a remote immobilisation capability; and a self-charging docked system that is modular, expandable and drill-less. This unique combination caters to wide-ranging location-specific requirements and allows for fast and smooth deployment.

Established in April of 2017, PopScoot is backed by a multidisciplinary trio of companies possessing rich experience and strong skillsets in engineering, manufacturing, mobile technological solutions, branding and marketing. It works in close synergy with a local start-up that launched the first smart bicycle racks in Singapore’s residential estates in July 2017.

In Singapore, the demand for last mile solutions has been growing significantly, with the steady rise in bus and rail ridership to a daily average of 7.2 million in 2016[1]. The Government has also continued to push towards its car-lite vision through initiatives such as the National Cycling Plan and the upgrading of supporting infrastructure. These developments have driven up the popularity of Personal Mobility Devices (PMD) such as e-scooters and opened up vast market opportunities for e-scooting co-share services.

“Electric-scooters on-demand is the way forward for Singapore, due to its technologically-savvy population, compact urban layout and pro-car-lite Government. Our launch in September will be a major first step towards our goal of making e-scooter sharing mainstream in Singapore by making every journey affordable, convenient and enjoyable. We hope to work with investors and partners to transform the last mile commute scene in Singapore and other smart cities around the world,” said Mr. Kelvin Emmanuel Ng, Chief Marketing Officer PopScoot.
