Unboxing of the Moto 360 Gen 2 Smart Watch (Video)

Thanks to Lenovo, I am able to get my hands on the latest Moto 360 Gen 2 watch a week after they were launched in Singapore. As you may know, there are a slew of improvements on the this latest Moto 360 as compared to the first version. One of the most significant changes, in my opinion, is that it now looks like a real watch.

Here is my unboxing video of the Moto 360 Gen 2.

BTW, for the Singapore market, there are 3 version available. They are the 46mm Silver case with Cognac Leather band, 42mm Rose Gold case with Blush Leather band, and 42mm Black case with Black Leather band. I am reviewing the 46mm Silver case with the Cognac leather strap.

Actually, there isn’t much things to show on the box itself. It holds the smartchwatch, the dock, the charger and documentations.

DOCK

Here is the dock to charge the Moto 360 wirelessly. It is slightly different from the Gen 1 and it now holds the watch better.

On the back, it has the Micro USB port for the charger cable.

On the base, it has a rubber packing to prevent the dock from slipping. If you can read from the picture below, it says Moto 360 2nd Gen.

CHARGER

For the charger itself, it has an output of 850mAh. So, I am sure if you do not have this charger with you, you can use any USB port to charge it with the dock.

Here is the Moto 360 Gen 2 charging wirelessly on the dock. You can customize the color of the display via the mobile phone app.

LEATHER BAND

The 46mm Moto 360 Gen 2 is the largest in the range. It uses a 22mm strap. Actually you can use any standard 22mm strap on it.

If you see closely the one provided by Motorola, you will notice the quick release switch.

By pushing it, you can easily take out the strap or band.

Actually, it is nothing new. It seems like most recent smartwatches come with such mechanism. For this watch, it comes with the Chicago-based Horween leather band. It is very soft. I love the cognac color.

WATCH

The watch itself is made of 316L Stainless Steel material. If you look closely, you can see one hole on its side. I believe it is the microphone. Do note that even though it has this hole, the Moto 360 2nd Gen is still IP67 certified.

And the other side, the crown has shifted to the top/side instead of center. It has a nice Motorola logo on it.

Notice the chamber glass piece? It is made with the scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.

On its back, it has a Heart Rate monitor.

Once you paired the Moto 360 with your phone, it will start syncing apps with it. Notice that the Flat Tire design still exists in the 2nd Gen. Based on them, it is the only place to house the sensors.

Summary

Overall, I love the feel of this Moto 360 2nd Gen smart watch. It feels solid and well made. I am quite skeptical over the battery life though. I have yet to try wearing it for a full day. If it can last me through the day, I will definitely use it more often.

Given that the battery only last a day or not, it is not convenient to bring it for long trips unless you are always near a power source and you have the dock with you.

In terms of design, it is one of the best looking Android Wear devices around. However, I wished they could bring Moto Maker to Singapore. With Moto Maker, you can customize the watch with different bezels, material, color and etc. I had a short chat with them during an event last week. I don’t think we will see accessories like the metal straps or Moto 360 Gen 2 in other colors any time soon.

Let me know if you have a question on this smartwatch and I will try to answer them. You can click HERE for more details (Pricing and availability info).
