CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT 2015 is finally here. I was at the Opening Ceremony for imbX 2015 (Infocomm Media Business Exchange) this morning with Dr, Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information as Guest of Honour.
Here is the stage before the event starts.
The first speaker is Ms Lindy Wee, Chief Executive of Singapore Exhibition Services. The “theme” this year is smart nation. So, expect to hear a lot of IOT and Smart Nation during the imbX 2015.
Here are some key words from her speech: “5G, Big Data, Internet of Things, Cloud Services, Smart Devices and Wireless Technologies”. In my opinion, they are the “essence” of the whole CommunicAsia 2015.
As for BroadcastAsia, she mentioned 4K is making its way into our living rooms and smart devices. Therefore, producers must have the solutions, workflow to churn out the high quality and immersive content.
Dr. Yaacoob Ibrahim continued with the Smart Nation topic by announcing that Singapore in now into the “Build” phase of Smart Nation. In one part of his speech, he mentioned that since last October, the IDA launched the pilot of the MyConnection SG app, a crowdsourcing tool to collect anoymised data on users’ mobile network experience. The app actually revealed the speed and latency of the three Telco networks. This information is then shared to the telcos to allow them to improve on their data coverage.
Expect more sensors in Singapore as areas such as Jurong, Orchard Road, the Singapore River precinct and Little India will have AG boxes (Aggregation Gateway) installed to support these sensors.
Other aspects of the speech involved logistics, health and etc. Overall, Singapore as a Smart Nation is on track, in my opinion.
The next part of the program is a interactive performance with dance and sand drawing.
Here is the master at work.
The sand art is projected on the screen while the dancers dance to the theme of the sand art.
The Opening Ceremony concluded with a visit to the booth area by the GOH. Stay tuned as I will report more interesting stuff at the booths.
