Jawbone UP3 is no longer swim-friendly, shipping date announced

When Jawbone announced Jawbone UP3 last year, I was actually quite excited that another tracker is coming into the market and for the fact that it has 10 meters water resistant. Not that I will always dive down to 10 meters but it is always good to have such water resistant specs, right?

Now, in a blog post by Jawbone, Jawbone finally announced the shipping date of the Jawbone UP3. It will be shipping to customers in the US from 20th April 2015 (for those who pre-ordered). However, it added a disappointing news. The UP3 is now water resistant to splashing, washing hands or in shower but not water resistant to the originally stated claim of 10 meters. Here is an excerpt from the blog post.

UP3 will now ship with a water resistance comparable to, and in line with, most other multi-sensor trackers. This means that UP3 is resistant to everyday splashing, including while washing hands or in the shower, but it is unsuitable for swimming or submerged use. We would like to apologize to customers who may have pre-ordered UP3 on the basis that it would be suitable for swimming. Customers who wish to cancel their pre-order will, of course, be able to do so with no charge.

Kudos to Jawbone for revealing this information and accepting the cancellation of the Jawbone UP3 for those who initially pre-ordered it with the intention of using it for swimming.
