Are you part of Canon PhotoMarathon 2014? To those who are braving the weather out these, keep it up! And to my friends at the event, have fun! Hope to see the results tonight. For uninitiated, Canon PhotoMarathon has been an annual competition and it is already the 12th installment. From my understanding, the first two themes for the shoot are: “ABOVE” and “BEAUTY IN CHAOS”. Good luck to all the participants.

The Region’s Largest Photo Competition Makes a Big Return in Singapore

Canon PhotoMarathon 2014 raises the stakes with great prizes, including top-end cameras and all-expenses paid trips to Japan for an exclusive Canon Photo Clinic
Singapore, 1 November 2014 – The annual Canon PhotoMarathon is back by popular demand, providing over 2,500 photography enthusiasts an opportunity to showcase their photography prowess and skills in Singapore. This year’s event is the twelfth instalment of the largest photo competition in the region, offering great prizes and featuring a new Corporate Challenge category. The competition is being held today, 1 November at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hall 401-402.  Parallel competitions are also conducted annually throughout the region including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
“With increased access to cameras today, there is a booming interest in photography in Singapore, as seen in the increasing numbers of photography-related events and interest groups. Canon PhotoMarathon provides enthusiasts and hobbyists alike an avenue to express their creativity in the beauty of the still image under the thrilling conditions of a competition,” said Edwin Teoh, Assistant Director, Consumer Business Marketing, Canon Singapore. “We are also proud to share that this year, we have opened a new category in support of the numerous organisations that view photography as an avenue for employee development and bonding – the Corporate Challenge. We hope that through this initiative, more will recognize the benefits of instilling a culture of photography within their organisations.”
Under the new Corporate Challenge, individuals have an opportunity to band together in groups of 3 or more to represent their organisation. Today will see representatives from 10 organisations go head-on in a photo battle to win attractive prizes. The winning organisation will be determined based on the highest combined scores of the photographs submitted by the individual members of the team.
A Canon PhotoMarathon for Everyone

In the spirit of Canon’s corporate philosophy of kyosei, which means living and working together for the common good, Canon PhotoMarathon 2014 is open to individuals from all walks of life, regardless of age or ability.
As part of Canon’s core beliefs that photography should be open to everyone, Canon has partnered with YMCA of Singapore to invite 25 participants from the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) Delta Senior School and APSN Centre for Adults to participate in this year’s event. This comes as part of Canon’s continued commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and championing causes for the needy and disadvantaged.
Additionally, as with previous years, a sign language interpreter will be on site to provide assistance to hearing-impaired participants.
Canon PhotoMarathon Contest Mechanics

The Canon PhotoMarathon consists of three segments; participants are required to create images according to assigned themes, which are released one after another during the day-long competition. Participants have just a few hours to submit their best interpretation of the assigned theme before the next theme is released.  The excitement of capturing images “on-the-spot” under the pressure of time is one of the key thrilling factors that see many returning participants.  The Canon PhotoMarathon kicks off at 9a.m. today, and is expected to last nine hours, culminating with the announcement of the winners at around 7.30p.m.
Attractive Prizes for Winning Photographers

Participants of Canon PhotoMarathon XII can look forward to a chance at winning numerous attractive prizes this year. The Best of Show from each of the two categories — Open and Student — will win an all-expense paid Photo Clinic to Japan, where the two winners will have the opportunity to visit and capture the breathtaking beauty of Tokyo City, Nagano prefecture and Gifu prefecture. Some highlights include the annual Japanese Traditional Winter Festival Santera Mairi, World Heritage Site Shirakawa Village, and the Jigokudani Yaen-koen, popularly known as the monkey hot springs.
Other prize winners will walk away with attractive Canon products such as the new EOS 7D Mk II, EOS 100D or EOS 700D, among other prizes.
