StarHub will activate COW during NDP 2014

With more and more people sharing pictures, videos, updates on social networks, StarHub anticipated that there will be significant increase in mobile traffic during NDP (National Day Parade) 2014. As such, they have started months ago to monitor the mobile traffic, enhance the base stations and making sure that COW (Cellular On Wheels) is there to support at ‘The Float@Marina Bay’.

StarHub's Cellular-On-Wheels

Kudos to StarHub, I am sure subscribers will be well taken care of. Here is a statement from StarHub. Feel free to comment. Would like to hear your experience during last year’s NDP.

As Singapore’s 49th birthday bash is around the corner, StarHub is doing its part to support the celebrations in and around ‘The Float@Marina Bay’, where a crowd of over 30,000 per show will congregate in the coming Saturdays. Many are expected to share their experiences through photos and videos on their mobile devices.

As with any large-scale events, our support for the National Day Parade (NDP) 2014 began months in advance. After reviewing the mobile traffic handling capacity of our equipment, we have enhanced mobile coverage and added capacity at over 30 mobile base stations in the location to ensure NDP goers will enjoy excellent service experience.

We will also deploy our upgraded solar-powered ‘Cellular-On-Wheels’ van right beside the seating gallery at The Float@Marina Bay. Affectionately known as ‘COW’, this mobile base station alone is able to handle mobile traffic from 2,000 users.

StarHub network engineers will be on-site to monitor base station performance, in addition to engineers at our network operation centre that remotely monitors the health of our nationwide network around-the-clock.

During NDP 2013, we achieved 100% uptime for our mobile network, which processed six times more download traffic and 14 times more upload traffic.

You know, it is always a pain when mobile traffic is congested. Hopefully, other telcos have deployed similar strategies to lighten the load of the base stations.
