Shoot exceptional quality videos from multiple angles with Canon LEGRIA Mini X

With enhanced audio quality, ultra-wide angle view and customisable modes, the LEGRIA Mini X will come in handy for professional recording in various environments.

SINGAPORE, 27 March 2014 – Canon launches the latest addition to its popular LEGRIA line-up: the LEGRIA Mini X. With this latest model, users can expect to be swept away by the premium audio quality, flexible shooting to capture unique angles and customisable modes to bring out the best in their videos. Lightweight and compact, users can easily bring along the power packed video camera with built-in Wi-Fi capabilities for shooting and sharing on the go.

“Following the LEGRIA Mini, we have greatly enhanced the recording capabilities of the LEGRIA Mini X. While it retains key features such as the ultra-wide angle view, the LEGRIA Mini X now boasts an upgraded, larger stereo microphone that delivers superior audio quality and a wider dynamic range. These additional features help to fill the gap in targeting users-on-the-go such as journalists and performers who need superb video and audio quality to deliver near-professional footage.” said Edwin Teoh, Assistant Director for Consumer Business Marketing, Canon Singapore.

Pristine Audio Quality for Professional Recording

With new microphone heads that are 2.5 times larger than the previous model, the sound quality of the LEGRIA Mini X will be greatly enhanced. This is attributed to the brand new high performance two-layer structure made of sponge and cloth mesh, reducing ambient noise while enhancing sound quality. Users can expect Background noise to be reduced significantly due to improved sensitivity with a higher Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio.

The LEGRIA Mini X will offer outstanding audio quality similar to that in CDs with the recording in Linear PCM (16-bit/48KHz) format, which produces unprocessed and uncompressed files. With all sounds signals preserved without any loss in quality, users can expect sound recording on LEGRIA Mini X to be true to its source. In addition, the new audio compressor mitigates the difference between soft and loud sounds, such that balanced sound levels are maintained across all audio frequencies from a silent concert hall session to a powerful opera singer’s vocals.

The LEGRIA Mini X is well suited for professional recording in various settings including interviews, dance performances or sport events, for optimal output. The manual audio features would enable users to exercise control over the audio input such as a volume dial to control mic level. Settings like wind screen, microphone directionality and audio compressor can also be adjusted to their desired level. Alternatively, with the Audio Scene select function, users can simply select one of eight recording modes that will automatically optimise audio settings to the specified audio scene detected. For more options to cater to different scenarios, new scenes such as Festival (suited for outdoor music event) and Meeting (suited for clear recording of multiple speakers in office environment) have been added as well.

Flexible shooting for unique perspectives

To capture an all-encompassing view of the environment, the LEGRIA Mini X is equipped with an ultra wide angle f/2.8 lens that provides a 170 degree angle of view during still photography and 160 degrees while shooting a video. The wide perspective would effectively enable users to capture movements and actions in tight, small spaces. With an adjustable built-in stand, users will find it easy to set up in any environment and shoot at a horizontal level or up to 60 degree angle. Besides enabling hands free shooting without the need for a tripod, this allows for unique angles to be explored.

The Vari-Angle touch-screen LCD monitor will complement the wide angle lens, making shooting from various angles a breeze for the user. The LEGRIA Mini X can automatically detect scene orientation and inverts the LCD display if necessary, ensuring that users can enjoy the freedom to shoot from virtually any angle. To further increase the shooting angle, users can opt to install the LEGRIA Mini X on the camera pan table CT-V1, which enables a tilt of up to 20 degrees and horizontal panning of up to a range of 200 degree from a smartphone over the Internet. Coupled with the ultra wide angle lens, this provides a nearly complete all-round view, which would be perfect for users who wish to monitor subjects at a distance or away from the scene.

Powered by a 12 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS Sensor and Canon’s DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor, users will be able to capture superb image quality in a variety of situations, including those in low-light conditions. Movies can be recorded in Full HD (1920 x 1080) and both MP4 as well as AVCHD (50i) recording format are supported. With a larger battery capacity, the LEGRIA Mini X can record up to 150 minutes, almost 2.5 times longer than its predecessor. Combined with the support of the SD card format, users can now record for a much longer period of time upon when charged.

Customisable modes to bring out the essence of your films

When it comes to shooting high-powered sports and informative tutorials, the LEGRIA Mini X will be able to enhance the videos with time-effects like slow motion and fast motion to bring out the essence of the scene. While slow motion is excellent for capturing every single precise movement in adrenaline-pumped sports action, fast motion can create wonders for makeup or even cooking videos to show the transformation through the process. With recording speed ranging from 1/4x speed slow motion (in VGA resolution) to a maximum of 4x speed fast motion, users will be able to adjust the tempo of the recording according to the subject and content of their shoot.

For more versatility, user can also choose between wide and close-up mode when filming videos. When shooting is done in the wide mode, users will be able to capture a full view of their surrounding while in close-up mode, users will be able to zoom in on the subject to focus on the finer details. To enhance hand-held shooting, Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) can be utilised under this mode to minimise camera movements. With the new embedded time code function, footage from multiple cameras can also be easily edited.

With the addition of new scene modes to pre-existing ones on the LEGRIA Mini X, users can expect filming in various situations to be better tailored to their needs. For example, “In the Car” mode will automatically help reduce ambient engine noises for better sound clarity whereas “Food and Fashion” mode will focus on natural looking and attractive colours of the subject. For an optimal scene mode to be automatically set, users can activate Smart Auto, which is an intelligent mode that will detect the shooting conditions.

Connect with built in Wi-Fi and Monitor Seamlessly with Live Streaming

The LEGRIA Mini X comes with built in Wi-Fi capabilities which allows users to share their videos or photos instantaneously onto social networking sites such as YouTube or Facebook. The Live Streaming feature on the LEGRIA Mini X will also allow users to view and record on their iOS or Android devices via Canon CameraAccess Plus app. Available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play, this app  enables user to control and monitor shots from a distance through their smartphone via remote access. In addition, it can also act as a monitoring device allowing users to keep an eye on their children or pets at home while they are out. When the LEGRIA Mini X is connected to the power source via its adapter, users will be able to view live streaming on their mobile phones throughout the day once the smartphone app is activated. Highly energy efficient, the LEGRIA Mini X will automatically switch to standby mode until activated by the smartphone app, effectively prolonging battery life.
