Google officially unveils the Google Smart Contact Lens. At Google[x], they managed to measure the glucose levels in tears using a tiny wireless chip and miniaturized glucose sensor that are embedded between two layers of soft contact lens material. A feat, in my opinion.
This Smart Contact Lens is really a good project, especially for people suffering from diabetes. Imagine, you can take out your smartphone, open an app and let the Smart Contact Lens measure your glucose level.
Here is a more detailed look at the Smart Contact Lens.
In their blog post, they also mentioned that they are exploring to embed LED lights in the contact lens so that it will glow if the threshold level is breached. However, this project still needs time and partnerships with other experts to become a reality.
