Anonymous hacks MIT website on Aaron Swartz death anniversary

After a year since internet activist, Aaron Swartz committed suicide, Anonymous decided to hack the MIT Cogeneration Project website as a tribute to the programmer activist best known for his role in the win over SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), and who was involved with the development of RSS and Reddit (which he later became a partner). At the time of writing, the site is still not restored.

Anonymous claimed the attack on their twitter that the Operation Last Resort, and this is not the first time Anonymous managed to get into MIT’s servers to deface it in the name of Aaron Swartz.

The group seems to be doing this to raise awareness for the event that is coming up, The Day We Fight Back which is a protest against internet mass surveillance, announced to be on the February 11th 2014.
