Twitter updates app with filters, Instagram adds filter

If you have not been following the tech news, here is a short summary. Instagram disabled integration with Twitter. Twitter stopped displaying Instagram pics. Rumors say Twitter will include photo filters with app update.

And eventually, Twitter really came out with its own photo filters (from Aviary) for both iOS and Android version of Twitter today. For Windows Phone users, don’t feel left out. If you really want filters for Twitter, try ROWI. The filters are powered by Aviary too! This is a screen shot of ROWI on Windows Phone 7.5.

At the same time, Instagram also pushed an update to their app. It includes another filter (Willow) to their collection.

I have tried Twitter’s filters and I think I will stick to Instagram or use the free Snapseed photo editor app from Google. I actually don’t like the output from Twitter filters.

Currently, Twitter has added 8 filters, an auto enhancer and a crop feature. It also has a feature to see the effects of the filters in a single page. Here are the information taken from their blog post.

  • Filters. Apply one of eight filters, ranging from black & white to vintage, to add a new look and feel to your photos.
  • Take a bird’s-eye view. See how each filter would affect your photo in a single grid view, or swipe through looks to compare your options.
  • Frame the action. Crop and pinch to zoom in order to focus attention.
  • Auto-enhance. Make your photos pop with balanced light and colors by tapping the wand.

Actually, I think the filters from ROWI are much more interesting than Twitter’s, although they are provided from the same company.
